INCREDIBLE HERCULES

Marvel Comics has released Daniel Acuna's variant cover to Incredible Hercules #114, on sale on Feb. 20.

Here's how Marvel describes the issue:

"In the wake of World War Hulk, the Mighty Avengers are hot on the heels of unrepentant renegades Hercules and Amadeus Cho. Driven into a mindless berserker rage by Ares, Herc has become the critical piece of Cho's plan to utterly destroy S.H.I.E.L.D. What is Cho's master plan to wipe out the spy agency...and is he willing to get Herc killed to do it? Guest-starring the Champions of Los Angeles!"

Incredible Hercules is written by World War Hulk architect Greg Pak, who is teaming with Fred Van Lente, who lives just a few blocks away from him.

"He has a great sense of humor and he loves that tragic, heroic aspect of Herc," Pak said.

In the story, Hercules and Amadeus form a "crazy buddy" team after refusing Iron Man's amensty. "These are buddies leading each other down the wrong direction all the time," Pak said.

Why should Hulk fans follow the characters in the book? Pak said they are friends of the Hulk and their stories might tie back into the character's mythos again, and that Hercules is in many ways the original Hulk. "Also, tons of smashing," Pak said.

Pak said artist Khoi Pham can provide the big action scenes, but also can project a sense of humor and the character touches.

Art Adams provides the issue's regular cover. Click on the thumbnails for larger versions of both covers.
