TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES' THOMAS DEKKER

Thomas Dekker, who plays John Connor in Fox's Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronciles, said he is hopeful fans of the film series will be satsified with the television show.

"It's a tricky business that they're handling really, really well," Dekker said. "I'm a fan of the series myself and when I heard they were doing this, my concern was, 'Oh, boy.' But they're really doing incredible things with the story and I think the fans will be satisfied in the sense that we've all really tried to hold on to the core of what made the films resonate so much with the audience, the hearts of the characters and the drive of the story.

""I think, in a way, the story of this series is even more relevant now than it was in the late 80's/early 90's because the world, if you think about it, has become so much more run by machines... myspace, e-mail, even cell phones. The line between human and machine is being blurred every day.

"And that is definitely an area of thought that the writers are going in a direction -- the robots being more human and the humans begin more robotic. That's an interesting political statement that goes beyond the action genre."

Dekker, who played Zach in the first season of NBC's Heroes, acknowledged that John Connor is somewhat of an iconic character.

"It's kind of a scary amount of responsibility because a lot of people really grew up with this character and really identify with him, I think," he said. "So it's a big undertaking for me. I'm just trying to do my best to fulfill what the fans would want to see, where this character is now."

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles debuts on Sunday night on Fox, with the two-part premiere continuing on Monday.
