HEATH LEDGER DEAD AT 28

According to the Associated Press, Heath Ledger, who played the Joker in the upcoming The Dark Knight, was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence in a possible drug-related death, police said.

He was 28.

According to the report, NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment believed to be his home. The housekeeper who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was there found him dead at 3:26 p.m.

"We are all deeply saddened and shocked by this accident," Ledger's publicist, Mara Buxbaum, said in a statement. "This is an extremely difficult time for his loved ones and we are asking the media to please respect the family's privacy and avoid speculation until the facts are known."

Ledger was nominated for a best actor Oscar for the 2005 film Brokeback Mountain. He had separated from his former fiancee Michelle Williams in September. The pair has a 2-year-old daughter.

Ledger had been working on another film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, in London.

It is unclear how much work he had remaining on The Dark Knight. According to a recent New York Times story, Ledger said that he had taken Ambien because of sleepless nights while filming scenes as The Joker.

Alan Horn, President and COO of Warner Bros. and Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Group made the following statement:

"The studio is stunned and devastated by this tragic news. The entertainment community has lost an enormous talent. Heath was a brilliant actor and an exceptional person. Our hearts go out to his family and friends."

BOOM STUDIOS' CTHULHU TALES

Boom! Studios on Tuesday announced plans and released images from its ongoing anthology, Chthulhu Tales, with Steve Niles headlining March's debut issue.

The monthly series spins out of three Cthulhu Tales one-shots that Boom! has published.

"Making Chthulhu Tales into a monthly anthology featuring my favorite comics writers and artists was a no-brainer decision," said Mark Waid, Boom!'s editorn-in-chief. "Getting Steve Niles--one of comics' best-known modern horror writers--to kick off the first issue likewise only made sense. And Steve delivered big."

Niles, Michael Alan Nelson and Tom Peyer are the writers for the first issues, which will feature covers by Patrick Ballesteros and Mateus Santolouco. The second issues features covers by Marco Rudy and Santolouco.
