THE SIMPSONS: "THAT 90'S SHOW"

Fox has released a video preview of the guest appearance of MTV's Kurt Loder from "That 90's Show" episode of The Simpsons.

Here's how Fox describes the episode, scheduled to air on Sunday:

"When Bart and Lisa discover Marge's diploma from Springfield University, Marge reveals that she had attended the university back when she and Homer had first started dating. In a flash back, Homer gives up his dreams of becoming a musician and takes a job at his father's laser tag warehouse to support Marge attending Springfield University. However, when Marge finds herself attracted to an offbeat professor named Professor August, Homer decides he has had enough of Marge¹s wandering eye. Homer instead focuses his emotions on his music, inventing a new sound called 'grunge.'

"As Marge continues to date the pretentious professor, Homer becomes the hottest grunge artist around, as evidenced by Weird Al's parody of his music. But when Marge sees a special news report on MTV with Kurt Loder announcing that Homer's band, Sadgasm, has broken up and that Homer is holed-up in a mansion hopelessly addicted to drugs, Marge must choose between her new life and her old love."

MARVEL, WGA REACH INTERIM AGREEMENT

Marvel Studios and the Writers Guild of America (WGA) announced on Friday that they have reached an interim comprehensive agreement that will put writers immediately back to work on the Marvel Studios development slate.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"We're very excited about our summer releases, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, and look forward to resuming work with writers on our future projects including Captain America, Thor, Ant-Man, and The Avengers," said Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel.

"Marvel Studios' signing of an interim agreement with the Writers Guild is more good news for our membership," said WGAE president Michael Winship and WGAW president Patric M. Verrone. "Marvel is committed to fairly compensating their writers and now they can move forward with their planned production schedule."

The WGA recently entered into interim agreements with The Weinstein Company, United Artists, Lionsgate, Worldwide Pants, Spyglass Entertainment, MRC, Jackson Bites, Mandate Films and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment.

DABEL BROTHERS TO PUBLISH MERCEDES THOMPSON COMICS

The Dabel Brothers on Friday announced they have signed with paranormal fantasy writer Patricia Briggs to bring the world of her Mercedes "Mercy" Thompson books to comics.

Mercedes Thompson: Homecoming is a four-issue mini-series and slated for the second half of 2008. The series will be collected in hardcover and distributed by Del Rey in 2009.

Here's how the publisher describes the concept:

"Mercedes 'Mercy' Thompson is a Volkswagen mechanic. She¹s also a coyote shapeshifter, an observer of the supernatural community, but not part of it: the perfect intermediary between the things that go bump in the night . . . and the things that bump back."

The comic-book series will be a prequel to the novels. According to Briggs, the comics will focus Mercedes fresh out of college when she's offered a job as a mechanic. . . by a 9-year-old boy.

"My first exposure to werewolves goes back to the old Marvel comic Werewolf by Night, which I read when I was still in grade school," Briggs said. "The image of the werewolf as a good guy, a tormented hero who could be dangerous to anyone around him, stuck with me all these years and manifested itself in the Mercedes Thompson series. To have Mercedes and her world become comics is almost karmic -- having the Dabel Brothers producing them is nothing less than fabulous good luck."

MARVEL TEAMS WITH FRENCH PUBLISHER SOLEIL

Marvel Comics on Friday announced it is teaming with French comic publisher Soleil to publish some of Europe's most popular comics in English for the first time.

Some of Soleil's most popular releases, such as Sky Doll, Universal War One, Samurai and Le Fleau Des Dieux, make their English language debuts beginning in May. The first release will be Sky Doll #1, a socio-political thriller in which a young android must decide her destiny by challenging the very government -- and faith -- that has controlled her life.

"Marvel's proud to bring Soleil's innovative stories to new audiences," said Dan Buckley, Marvel president of publishing. "These books represent some of the world's top talent telling cutting-edge stories in a variety of genres, demonstrating the power of the comic medium."

"At a time when French comics need to reach new markets, I am very proud to bring the iconic heroes of the Soleil catalogue to the publishing adventure of Marvel in the USA," said said Mourad Boudjellal, founder and CEO of Soleil / MC Productions. "Leader of the American comic book entertainment, Marvel is a very powerful symbol of our medium built on innovation and entrepreneurship, two of my most treasured values."

Soleil is producing more than 250 new books per year and keeps expanding in other worldwide markets. Over the years, the company has positioned itself as both a leader in the fantasy genre and a major force in the European comic book market.

Lanfeust, Soleil's flagship fantasy title, has sold more than 5 million books since 1994.
