COLUMBIA PICTURES OPTIONS THE BOYS

Columbia Pictures has acquired the rights to The Boys, the comic book by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson currently published by Dynamite Entertainment.

The Boys will be developed as a feature with producer Neal H. Moritz and his Sony-based Original Film banner, according to Variety.

"Rather than begin with a romantic idea of superheroes out to save the world, The Boys imagines a world in which superheroes really exist, with all of the flaws that real people have," Moritz told Variety. "The Boys are there to make sure that people with superhuman powers don't get out of line."

Jason Netter of Kickstart, which originally optioned the propety, will also produce, along with Ken F. Levin.

Another Ennis property, Preacher, is currently in development at HBO, and there has been talk of an animated version of The Pro.
