WIZARD WORLD PHILADLEPHIA: MARVEL COMICS SECRET INVASION

PHILADELPHIA -- Marvel Comics talked up its big event for 2008 at its Secret Invasion panel at Wizard World Philadelphia on Saturday.

Panelists included C.B. Cebulski, Tom Brevoort, Joe Quesada, Brian Reed, Dan Slott, Fred Van Lente, Greg Pak and marketing's Arune Singh.

Highlights include:

* Marvel revealed the variant to Secret Invasion #3. Quesada stressed that the issue will ship on time, although Marvel's visual presentation listed May 7.

Marvel also revealed the cover to Secret Invasion #6, which is the first image shown above.

* Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. #33 will be by Christos Gage and Sean Chen. The cover shows War Machine -- apparently.

* Joining writer Matt Fraction on Secret Invasion: Thor will be artist Doug Braithwaite, newly exclusive to Marvel.

* Brevoort said that Mighty Avengers #17 will tell the story of how Elektra was replaced by a Skrull.

* Brevoort said Nick Fury is back in "a big way" and will be all over Secret Invasion.

* Brevoort said that the Skrulls have discovered how to develop powers more easily. Slott said there will be two different kinds of Skrulls -- "classic and new" -- explored in Avengers: The Initiative.

* Brevoort said "theoretically" that Skrulls could have been on Earth for decades and perhaps hundreds of years.

* Any Dark Phoenix answers? Brevoort indicated Secret Invasion: X-Men would probably be the place to find them.

* Brevoort said the Red Hulk will not be involved in Secret Invasion.

* Brevoort said that a Director's Cut edition of Secret Invasion #1 will add depth to the reading experience and how the story was planned.

* Jessica Drew? "That all depends on what state Jessica Drew is in at the end of Secret Invasion," Brevoort said, then adding that the Brian Michael Bendis/Alex Maleev Spider-Woman series is still planned.

* Brevoort said missing characters will be addressed during the course of the series.

* The original Super Skrull will be in She-Hulk and Nova.

* Brevoort said there will be "huge emotional impact" with Mockingbird and Ronin, perhaps beyond Secret Invasion.

* An issue of New Avengers will deal with the Skrull impact might have been on House of M.

* Brevoort wouldn't elaborate on the status of various Hawkeyes. "Assume nothing. The ground is very soft and anything could happen," Brevoort said.

* Quesada said he was "dumbfounded" that writer Brian Michael Bendis had been planting seeds for Secret Invasion without him knowning it.

* Pak and Van Lente talked about Hercules' invovlement in Secret Invasion. The God Squad will be passing through Nightmare's realm to get to the realm of the Skrull gods. Pak reitereated there will be a betrayal. "We will establish the source of the betrayal and where it started," Van Lente said.

* The next story arc in The Incredible Hercules will be titled "Love and War." It will be drawn by Clayton Crain, and it pits the Amazons vs. Atlanteans, with Cho and Hercules on opposing sides.

* Reed said when he was told what was happening after Secret Invasion he thought it "was one of the those things that is so stupid and insane that they wanted people to post it on the Internet."

* Brevoort said there will likely be a collection of the Secret Invasion online strips.

* Secret Invasion: Spider-Man writer Reed said the story involves the Brand New Day cast and what happens on the day Secret Invasion starts.

* Brevoort said Spider-Man will remain in the Avengers for the foreseeable future and that the Avengers will appear in Amazing Spider-Man.

* Super villains involvement? "They will definitely be getting involved on one side or the other," Brevoort said.

* Brevoort said the Thunderbolts will be on the front lines, "very public."

"In some ways, the Avengers don't know who to trust. The Thunderbolts never trust themselves, so it's business as usual," Brevoort said. "Where they end up after the series will be kind of interesting and surprising as well."

* Look for lots of Bullseye in upcoming months, Quesada said.

* Brevoort said there are plans for The Hood going into 2009.

* Brevoort said a lot of people who aren't Skrulls are going to be killed before Secret Invasion is over.

* Reed said the only reaction from normal people in Secret Invasion: Front Line is: "Run!" The series will give the viewpoint of the average person in the Marvel Universe. Ben Urich is the central character.

* Ajak will be a major character on the God Squad, and Van Lente hinted about possible Skrull Eternals.

* Brevoort said that Secret Invasion should ship monthly through November.

* Brevoort said that the Invaders will appear exclusive in Avengers/Invaders until the 12-issue series is over.

* Quesada said more issues of Nextwave will remain in the hands of the creative team of Warren Ellis and Stuart Immonen. "If they find the time to do it again, we'd love to publish Nextwave," Quesada said.

* A Doctor Strange ongoing?

"Funny you should ask," Quesada said.

"There's some talking and some thinking going on," Brevoort said.

* Did the Skrulls have any impact on World War Hulk? "I think you'll have to keep on reading. I definitely can say the Hulk is not a Skrull," Pak said.

* Will there be shapeshifting humans infiltraing the Skrulls? "That would be an interesting tactic," Brevoort said. "Maybe."

* Quesada said Skarr: Son of Hulk is an ongoing. Pak praised Ron Garney's depiction of the big villain, Axe-Man Bone.

* Brevoort said Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy will have Secret Invasion tie-ins.
