MONDAY, JUNE 30, 2008THE DARK KNIGHT'S FUTURE![]() Will the Dark Knight return?
The Batman movie franchise seems to be as healthy as ever with the July 18 release of The Dark Knight, but the current series' key figures remain non-committal to another installment.
"I really have no concept of what I would do next," writer/director Christopher Nolan said Sunday at the film's press junket in Beverly Hills, Calif. "I finished the film last week really. I'm just putting it out there it out there with that sense of anticipation and we'll see what the audience thinks of it.
"What I can say is, in deciding to do a second film, I've seen how few good second films there ever are. We certainly didn't want to hamper ourselves by saving anything for future films. We put everything we could into this film."
Christian Bale, who plays Bruce Wayne/Batman, said he is signed for three films, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll play the character again.
"That's up to Chris Nolan. The answer is up to him," Bale said. "He's created this completely, so I hope the choice will be his."
Gary Oldman, who plays James Gordon, said he thinks Nolan will return.
"There's every possibility there will be a third one," he said. "And I think Chris will do a third. If there is a third, I think he'll do it. It's his baby. He's not going to give this up."
Oldman said that Warner Bros. understands the importance of Nolan to the franchise.
"Just the name Batman isn't enough," he said. "You've got to have someone at the helm. You've really got to have a vision for it, and Chris has got that. So I think they will tempt him with all sorts of things."
Writer David Goyer, who has worked with Nolan and his brother Jonathan on the stories for the films, said that Nolan tends to work one film at a time and hasn't discussed plans for a third movie.
"That's not to say we haven't," he said, referring to himself and Jonathan Nolan. "And we're obviously not going to tell."
Goyer also declined comment on any of his other comics-related projects.

KEVIN SORBO ON THE MIDDLEMANKevin Sorbo, who starred in more than 100 episodes each of syndicated television's Andromeda and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, will be guest-starring in an upcoming episode of ABC Family's The Middleman.
Sorbo is playing a Middleman from 1969 who has been cryogenically frozen. He is called into action when his old nemesis, The Candle, causes problems for the current Middleman.
"Itıs a really interesting role and I love this script, so Iım really excited about it," said Natalie Morales, who plays Wendy Watson.
"I think the villain in this is really, really awesome. ... It has kind of a James Bond feel, this episode, and I think the audience will really dig it."
The episode guest-starring Sorbo will likely be the ninth of the season.
Earlier this year, Sorbo was featured in the 300 spin-off, Meet the Spartans.
Look for much more on The Middleman this week, continuing on Tuesday.
