COMIC-CON: SMALLVILLE

Tom Welling couldn't make it because of shooting schedules, but a large representation from Smallville flew in to San Diego on Sunday for a preview of Season 8 of The CW's Smallville at Comic-Con International.

A panel was moderated by one-time Smallville staffer Jeph Loeb. It featured actors Allison Mack, Justin Hartley, Sam Witwer and Cassidy Freeman and new showrunners Todd Slavkin, Darren Swimmer, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson.

Perhaps the biggest piece of news is that Geoff Johns, writer of Action Comics and several other DC Comics projects, is writing an episode of Smallville that involves the Legion of Super-Heroes. Mack also noted that she will be directed an episode for the first time.

COMIC-CON: WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN

Marvel Studios and Nicktoons unveiled their new Wolverine and the X-Men animated series at Comic-Con International on Saturday night with a screening of three episodes.

COMIC-CON: TERMINATOR SALVATION

Warner Bros. staged a press conference on Saturday at Comic-Con International for Terminator Salvation, the fourth film in the series.

The press conference included Sam Worthington (Marcus Wright), Anton Yelchin (Kyle Reese), Moon Bloodgood (Blair Williams), director McG, Bryce Dallas Howard (Kate Connor) and Comman (Barnes).

The film's star, Christian Bale, is currently promoting The Dark Knight.

* The Dark Knight continued its record-setting pace, topping the box office for a second consecutive weekend with $75.6 million, pushing its total to $314.2 and making it the fastest movie to reach $300 million.

The Dark Knight should overtake Iron Man on Monday for the position as top film of 2008.

* At its second DC Nation panel, DC Comics announced that "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?" will be by Neil Gaiman and Andy Kubert and will arrive in January.
