COMING FRIDAY

Marvel First Looks -- and more!

MARVEL ANIMATION ROUNDUP

The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series will remain on The CW 4Kids for at least the short term, according to a representative of 4Kids.

The series is currently airing at 9 a.m. on Saturdays.

According to sources, the second season of Spider-Man likely will not air on The CW 4Kids. Season 2 is expected to launch sometime around March.

An announcement on The CW 4Kids' upcoming lineup is expected to be made next week.

In other Marvel animation news:

* The first three episodes of Nicktoons' upcoming Wolverine and the X-Men, which were screened at Comic-Con International last month, are titled "Hindsight."

* Steve Blum, right, who does the voice of Wolverine for the series and the upcoming Hulk vs. direct-to-DVD movie, said working on the movie took a physical toll.

"It was pretty brutal. The fight scenes are really taxing on the throat," he said. "I would usually need to rest a day before I could do anything else, and in some cases two or three days."

Blum is also the voice of the Vanisher in Wolverine and the X-Men and Green Goblin in Spider-Man.

* Look for John Jameson to play a larger role in Season 2 of Spider-Man.

DARWYN COOKE DRAWS MADMAN

Darwyn Cooke is teaming with writer J. Bone for a new story featuring Mike Allred's Madman, in Madman Atomic Comics #14, from Image Comics.

"Darwyn and I are like twins separated at birth," Allred said. "We dig all the same things and get ridiculously excited about whatever we're working on. We also throw fits whenever we're told 'no' by 'the Man', and, sometimes to our detriment, have a 'burned earth policy' when it comes to doing a project the way we want.

"Fortunately, we usually get the support needed to build our visions, and Madman Atomic Comics is a prime example of that. Image Comics could not be more supportive in their backing me up with all my crazed paper dreams in Madman Atomic Comics. They're just as jazzed as I am to invite Darwyn and mutual pal, and cool genius, J.Bone, on Madman Atomic Comics #14!"

While Cooke and Allred have worked together on various projects such as Catwoman and The X-Statix, this will mark the first time Cooke and Bone have delved into a full story featuring Madman. Their short, "Madman: The Movie," takes Frank Einstein and company down the treacherous road to Hollywood as a film studio intends to loosely adapt Frank's life story with some very strange results.

Madman Atomic Comics #14 will be in stores on Nov. 19.

BRUCE: THE LITTLE BLUE SPRUCE

Silverline Books, the all-ages book division of Image Comics' Shadowline, this holiday season is releasing Bruce: The Little Blue Spruce, an all-ages story of a little blue tree without a home, by Kristen Koerner Simon and Jim Valentino.

"One of my unattained career goals was to do a children's book and when Kris brought Bruce: The Little Blue Spruce to me, I instantly knew this would be it," Valentino said. "Not only did I love the gentle message of accepting the differences in ourselves and othersm but the challenge of drawing a story where the principal character was a tree was too much to pass up!"

The book will featured painted color by Avery Butterworth.

Bruce: The Little Blue Spruce, a 32-page square-sized hardcover for $9.99, will be in stores on Nov..
