As they form into small teams to recover the H20, Atom continues to have bizarre physical reactions from his exposure to the mysterious alien crystals. Evelyn has similar reactions when she is "infected" by the crystals during a battle with the worms. While trying to evade the creatures, Atom and Evelyn take a detour through a tunnel that leads them straight to the core of the asteroid. It is there they discover the well-hidden secret about the true purpose and nature of the asteroid. But in making this discovery, they have put Earth itself at risk and forever altered the course of humanity.
