ASPEN COMICS' MICHAEL TURNER TRIBUTE BOOK

Aspen Comics has released imagery and a list of contributors for its A Tribute To Michael Turner Issue, honoring the artist/writer and the company's founder who died on June 27.

The 80-page book will be in stores on Nov. 5.

"Those first couple of months after Mike's passing were pretty unbearable for us, but thankfully we had a lot of great friends and colleagues around the industry to lean on and lend a hand, or shoulder," said Aspen's Frank Mastromauro. "So many people were asking what we'd be doing for Mike, and this tribute book came to life. I can't express how grateful we are to everyone who took time out to participate in this issue. It's the most meaningful book we'vve ever done as a company, and the amount of support we received for this tribute book was truly overwhelming."

The book features:

* A first time compilation cover by Turner and Alex Ross.

* An introduction by Turner's mother Grace Crick.

* Special tributes from the Aspen Comics staff.

* More than 40 all-new original pieces of art from the industry's top creators.

* Words of remembrance and unique tributes from the industry's top writers, editors, and friends of Turner.

* A special section featuring fan art produced in honor of Turner.

Shown above are Ross' cover and contributions from Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Joe Quesada and Sana Takeda. (Click on the thumbnails for larger images.)

ROBERT DOWNEY JR. IN THE AVENGERS

Marvel Studios has announced that, as part of his four-picture deal with the studio, Iron Man star Robert Downey will appear in The Avengers, as well as Iron Man 2.

Jon Favreau, who is returning to direct Iron Man 2, will be an executive producer of The Avengers, according to Marvel.

Marvel also confirmed that Don Cheadle will take over the role of James Rhodes in Iron Man 2, following Terrence Howard.

"We are very excited about working with the extraordinarily talented Don Cheadle as we expand the role of Rhodey in Iron Man 2," said Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios. "It has already become apparent as we prep the movie for production, that the dynamic between Robert and Don will take Iron Man 2 to new heights."

Cheadle is also signed on to perform the same role in The Avengers and subsequent installments of the Iron Man franchise.

Marvel's description of The Avengers also mentions that the film will include "Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk and more, as they are forced to band together to battle the biggest foe they've ever faced."

Iron Man 2 is scheduled for a May 7, 2010 release, with The Avengers on July 15, 2011. Both films will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.

SECRET INVASION FINALE ON DEC. 3

Marvel Comics has announced a new release date for Secret Invasion #8. The extra-sized finale, by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Yu, will be in stores on Dec. 3, two weeks later than originally scheduled.

"The additional pages in #8 did both Leinil and the schedule in," editor Tom Brevoort said. "Anybody who pored over the artwork from #7 a week ago can easily see how he and Mark Morales have been putting their all -- and then some -- into every page and every panel, and that effort has finally caught up with us.

"Hopefully, retailers and fans will forgive us these extra two weeks as we make sure that everything is in the shape it should be in for the extra-sized climax -- and from there, it'll be smooth sailing straight into Dark Reign."

Said David Gabriel, Marvel's senior vice president of sales, said, "In speaking with retailers, Marvel decided it was more important to preserve the creative integrity of the series, rather than rush out the final issue. This not only creates a stronger product for our loyal readers, but also for our retailer partners, whose support helped make Secret Invasion a huge success."
