SAVAGE DRAGON RETURNS TO POLICE FORCE

Image Comics has announced that Erik Larsen's Savage Dragon will be returning to the Chicago Police Force after a 12-year absence.

The return will occur in Image Comics' Savage Dragon #145.

Tuesday's Chicago Tribune heralded the return with a strip that included President Elect Barack Obama welcoming back Savage Dragon. The strip will be reprinted in Savage Dragon #145, which goes on sale on March 25.

"Writing and drawing Savage Dragon as a cop after nearly 12 years feels good--it feels right," Larsen said. "It's a homecoming of sorts and it's a joy to be back."

MICHELLE OBAMA COMIC BOOK

Bluewater Productions has announced that Michelle Obama, wife of President Elect Barack Obama, will be featured in its ongoing Female Force comics series.

The book will follow the future First Lady, a Princeton- and Harvard-educated lawyer, from her youth on the South Side of Chicago to her community, civic-service and private-sector career successes through the 2008 presidential campaign and election day. The book is scheduled for release in April.

"Mrs. Obama is a dynamic force and one of the most influential women in the world,˛ said Bluewater Productions president Darren G. Davis. "Her potential influence on future policy decisions makes her a fascinating figure to feature."

"In creating an image of our new first lady, Michelle Obama, it was my goal to represent her class, beauty and intelligence," said artist Vinnie Tartamella. "I hope I reflected these qualities and characteristics in this historical piece. I'm truly honored to have been asked to create this."

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS: "DUEL OF THE DROIDS"

Lucasfilm has released a new image and video clip from the "Duel of the Droids" episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, scheduled to air Friday at 9 p.m. on Cartoon Network.

Click on the image above for a larger image, and for the clip, CLICK HERE.

In the episode, Anakin, Ahsoka and replacement droid R3-S6 (aka "Goldie") embark on a dual rescue/sabotage mission when they discover R2-D2 is being held at General Grievous's secret enemy listening post.

Writer Kevin Campbell used the unusually vivid word "splayed" to describe how R2-D2's internal mechanisms would be removed and exhibited across an examining table. That gave the production team ample opportunity to delve into Artoos's inner workings, as well as to have a little fun at director Rob Colemanšs expense.

"Dave (Filoni) and the designers -- particularly Killian Plunkett -- figured out what was actually inside Artoo," director Rob Coleman said. "He's the ultimate Swiss Army knife, and we all love the myriad things that come out of him, but having to build and animate all of that is another story. Lucasfilm Animation's Gary Scheppke got a box full of 'Artoo bits,' and the modelers -- basing it off the actual hardware -- crammed it into the model inside the computer. There are definitely some recognizable pieces on that table from the films, as well as all the things that show up for the first time in this episode a cutter wheel, suction cups, etc. Then they animated in a few things like a pea shooter and a boxing glove just to get my attention. They're funny guys."

Campbell said he took pride in the opportunity to add some history for Artoo and his capabilities, showing aspects of the droid that audiences haven't seen before.

"I love that wešre adding back story to the back story. We discover that when Princess Leia hides the Death Star plans inside Artoo in Episode IV, it's not the first time he's been entrusted with important information," Campbell said. "I also like that we get to play with Anakin's emotional side. The Jedi are saying he gets too attached, that he's willing to risk everything to get Artoo back. He's a Jedi, and yet he assigns sentimental value to an inanimate object. I can relate to that, because that's real loyalty."

In other Clone Wars news, Cartoon Network is adding an encore broadcast beginning Saturday, Nov. 15. Episodes will air on Saturday mornings at 9:30 a.m.
