REPORT: JOSH SCHWARTZ TO WRITE X-MEN: FIRST CLASS MOVIE

Josh Schwartz has been tapped by 20th Century Fox to write an X-Men: First Class movie, Variety is reporting.

According to Variety, Schwartz, 32, could possibly direct the film, which will be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner, who has produced all three X-Men films and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Simon Kinberg, a writer on X-Men: The Last Stand.

Neither Fox nor Marvel Studios has confirmed the report. It is unclear which mutants the new movie would feature and how it would fit into previous movie continuity.

Schwartz is currently executive producer and creator of The CW's Gossip Girl and NBC's Chuck. He was also the creator and executive producer of The O.C., and, at age 26, he became the youngest person in network history to create a network series and run its day-to-day production.

Schwartz will make his feature-film directing debut for Paramount with Famous Last Words, a coming-of-age story he is adapting from John Green's 2003 novel Looking for Alaska.

GALE ANNE HURD TO PRODUCE GEARHEAD

Arcana Studio has announced that Gale Anne Hurd's Valhalla Motion Pictures has closed a deal for the film rights for Gearhead, which Hurd will produce.

Gearhead was created by Dennis Hopeless and Kevin Mellon and published by Arcana Comics.

In Gearhead, a young woman teams up with a group of rebels to fight the corrupt superheroes who govern the United States.

"We are excited to bring Gearhead to life. It's a terrific character-driven story set in a unique and compelling world," said Hurd, whose credits include this year's The Incredible Hulk and Punisher: War Zone.

"To work with Gale on Gearhead is simply fantastic. We couldnšt have found a better partner," Arcana Studio's Sean OšReilly said.
