SCI FI GREENLIGHTS CAPRICA AS SERIES

Sci Fi Channel has greenlit production on the new original series Caprica, ordering 20 hours of the drama including the two-hour pilot, it was announced on Tuesday by Dave Howe, president of SciFi.

Caprica is the prequel to Battlestar Galactica and stars Eric Stoltz, Esai Morales, Paula Malcomson and Polly Walker.

Here's how Sci Fi describes the series:

"Set 50 years before Battlestar Galactica, Caprica follows two rival families -- the Graystones and the Adamas -- as they grow, compete, and thrive in the vibrant world of the 12 Colonies, a society recognizably close to our own. Enmeshed in the burgeoning technology of artificial intelligence and robotics that will eventually lead to the creation of the Cylons, the two houses go toe-to-toe blending action with corporate conspiracy and sexual politics. Caprica will deliver all of the passion, intrigue, political backbiting and family conflict in televisionıs first science fiction family saga."

"As the series begins, a startling development is about to occur -- the creation of the first cybernetic life-form node or 'Cylon' -- the ability to marry artificial intelligence with mechanical bodies. Joseph Adama (Esai Morales) -- father of future Battlestar commander William Adama (Sina Najafi) -- a renowned civil liberties lawyer, becomes an opponent of the experiments undertaken by the Graystones (Eric Stoltz), owners of a large computer corporation that is spearheading the development of these living robots: the Cylons."

Production on the series is slated to begin next summer in Vancouver for a 2010 premiere. Jeffrey Reiner directed the pilot.

Caprica is produced by Universal Cable Productions and executive produced by Ronald D. Moore, David Eick and Remi Aubuchon.

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS: "CLOAK OF DARKNESS"

Lucasfilm has released a video preview of "Cloak of Darkness," Friday's new episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network.

To view the clip, CLICK HERE.

Here's how the episode is described:

"Ahsoka and Jedi Master Luminara escort captured Viceroy Nute Gunray to trial -- but they're unaware that Count Dooku has dispatched his deadly assassin Asajj Ventress to free the prisoner and eliminate the Jedi."

"Cloak of Darkness" was written by Paul Dini and directed by Dave Filoni.

"It was interesting to take Ahsoka, who plays by her own rules, and put her under the tutelage of a more established Jedi," Dini said. "She can't get around Luminara the way she plays with Anakin and Obi-Wan.

"It's not just their generational difference, it's a difference in methods -- Luminara is very much by the book, and expects any padawan to follow the rules. Ahsoka grabs a lightsaber and runs into battle, whereas Luminara wants to take a moment and assess the situation through her mastery of the Force. Throw in the wildcard of Ventress and you've got a very interesting mix."
