PUNISHER: WAR ZONE ROUNDUP

Lexi Alexander, director of Punisher: War Zone, said she didn't know if she was the right person to direct a comic-book film -- until she read the Punisher MAX series.

"I really reacted to the mythology of Frank Castle," Alexander said. "He's a guy whose heart just darkened and who basically thinks he can only save the world by killing everybody who's bad. And that's just right up my alley. I thought, 'All right, I can do a good job with this.'"

"Lexi is a visionary," said producer Gale Anne Hurd, "and her passion and perspective are contagious. She just believed so much in how this movie could look and she wanted to attract a high caliber cast. I'm really excited to have her at the helm of this project."

In other Punisher: War Zone news:

* A screening of the film was held Monday at Mann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Among those appearing were stars Ray Stevenson, Wayne Knight and Julie Benz, producer Gale Anne Hurd, director Alexander and Punisher artist Tim Bradstreet.

* Lionsgate has launched an interactive comic book for Punisher: War Zone that uses video and text to build up the background story. The comic features chapters and the final one ends as a teaser to the film.
