COMING MONDAY

April solicitations -- and more!

HULK VS.: FRANK PAUR

Frank Paur, producer of the Hulk vs. animated movie, said that the Hulk vs. Wolverine and Hulk vs. Thor halves are very different.

"One is very epic, almost like a David Lean type of a movie, the other is more like David Fincher," Paur said. "They're just completely opposites."

The Hulk vs. Wolverine portion might be the most violent project from Marvel Animation, with five amputations and lots of blood. Also shown in detail is Wolverine's brutal Weapon X origins.

"We had an opportunity -- and we took it," Paur said. "Because this is the kind of stuff that for Saturday morning, for general animation, it's a very hard thing to watch, a character suffer. But this is essential to understand who Wolverine is, his past and how far he has come from that."

Paur -- whose many credits includes the Doctor Strange and Invicible Iron Man movies and series such as X-Men: Evolution, Spawn and Batman: The Animated Series -- said he enjoyed some of the freedoms in producing a direct-to-DVD film.

"One of things that I loved as a producer and designer of these shows is we were able to get in and we were able to experiment," he said. "I have always felt very strongly that super-hero characters have diferent types of personalities. Personalities demand different types of designs to help effecitively play them off.

"Both shows are both very emotional character pieces. With Wolverine, this is the pre-X-Men Wolverine. He's not that far removed from the monsters that he fights, except he know the difference between right and wrong. But he's still kind of torn with a lot of emotions within him."

Hulk vs. will available on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
