REPORT: BRETT RATNER TO DIRECT YOUNGBLOOD MOVIE

India's Big Reliant Entertainment has purchased the film rights to Rob Liefeld's Youngblood for Brett Ratner to direct, Variety is reporting.

"Most of the great graphic novels are gone, and Youngblood is one of the few comic books left with tentpole potential," Ratner told Daily Variety. "It was a real personal passion project for me, and a lot of people wanted (Youngblood)."

Ratner, the director of 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, last year was attached to a live-action film based on Valiant's Harbinger.

Ratner's other credits include the three Rush Hour movies and Red Dragon.

Despite several deals over the last 15 years, Liefeld has yet to have a film realized. Youngblood was once developed in animation, but yielded no more than a test.

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS GETS SECOND SEASON

Cartoon Network has announced it has picked up Star Wars: The Cone Wars, the CG-animated series from Lucasfilm Animation, for a second season.

The second season is scheduled to debut this fall. The Season 1 finale is scheduled to air on Friday, March 20.

"We're trying to push the envelope even further in the second season," said George Lucas, Star Wars creator. "In the features, I focused on telling the story of the Skywalker family. With The Clone Wars I'm exploring far beyond that and we barely scratched the surface in the first season. It's exciting to be able to take people to all these new places in the Star Wars galaxy."

"Star Wars: The Clone Wars is like nothing else on television and has delivered for us on all levels," said Stuart Snyder, president/COO Turner Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media. "It has helped us launch a great new night of action-adventure on Fridays and build on our dominance with boys. We look forward to continuing what has been a great relationship with George and everyone at Lucasfilm."

THE SIMPSONS UPCOMING EPISODES

Fox has released descriptions of the next two new episodes of The Simpsons.

The Sunday, Feb. 15 episode will be "Take My Life, Please." The episode will be the first of the series to air in high definition and will feature new high-definition main titles.

Here's how Fox describes the episode:

"When Mayor Quimby inducts Vance Connor into the Springfield Walk of Fame, Homer recounts how he ran against Vance for class president in high school and lost. After a little digging, Homer learns that the election had been rigged, and he wonders what course his life would have taken if only fate had smiled on him. Homer soon meets an old Italian cook at Luigi's Italian Restaurant whose magical tomato sauce, when stirred in just the right way, reveals what Homer's life would have been like had he won the election. However, when Homer gets a chance to see what his life could have been, he wonders if fate was actually been on his side all along."

The Simpsons will be pre-empted on Sunday, Feb. 22 for NASCAR racing, but returns on Sunday, March 1 with the "How the Test Was Won" episode.

Here's how Fox describes the episode:

"Bart is informed that he and a select group of students have received perfect scores on a practice test for the upcoming Vice President's Assessment Test. As a result, he will be exempt from taking the real exam and will be transported by helicopter to a pizza party. Shocked at how Bart could have performed better than she did, Lisa freezes up when it comes time for her to take the exam. However, Bart and the others soon realize their trip is not what it seems, and their day turns into an adventure all its own. Meanwhile, when Homer is late on making an insurance payment, he must avoid bodily accidents at all costs until his insurance check is cashed, making for one very tense afternoon."
