EVAN RACHEL WOOD TALKS SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK

Evan Rachel Wood, who will play Mary Jane to Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark -- the Broadway musical opening next year -- was a guest on NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night.

Wood, dressed very much like Kirsten Dunst in Spider-Man 3, talked a bit about the project.

"I know it sounds crazy. But it's (director) Julie Taymor, who did the Lion King, and we all saw what she did with that, so it's unlike any Spider-Man you've ever seen," she said.

Wood talked about working with Bono and The Edge from U2, who are creating music and lyrics for the show.

"It was hysterial. I got to do the workshop, sit down with them playing guitars and going over the music," she said. "I was making jokes, going, 'Watch, by the end of this, I'll be telling them what to do.' And by the end, It was. I was like, 'Bono, I know you want to save the world and everything, in this song, you're talking about poverty and world hunger. It's Broadway. Can we lighten this up a bit?'"

Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark marks Wood's New York stage debut.

"Evan is unique: she is a young actress with incredible depth for both serious and comic drama in films and theater, and on top of that, she has an extraordinary lyrical voice," Taymor said. "We are thrilled to have her as our Mary Jane."

Wood is joined in the cast by Alan Cumming, who will play the Green Goblin. Cumming played Nightcrawler in X2 and Loki in Son of the Mask.

Peter Parker/Spider-Man has not been cast yet.

Taymor wrote Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark with Glen Berger.

Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark will open on Thursday, Feb. 25 at Broadway's Hilton Theatre at 213 West 42nd Street in New York. Tickets are now on sale.
