ARCHIE COMICS: MIKE PELLOWSKI

Archie Comics writer Mike Pellowski talks tabout Archie Digest #256, in stores on July 29.

Question: In this issue, Archie and Reggie bet who can catch the most fish. Can Archie trust Reggie?

Pellowski: Can Archie trust Reggie when a bet is concerned? Arch could close both eyes and trust Jug to safely lead him through a maze. With Reg...it's best to keep one eye slightly open.

Question: What makes a good Reggie story?

Pellowski: We all know someone like Reggie. He brags. He has a big ego. He exaggerates. He's cowardly and a prankster. He's also funny and can be the life of the party. He's the perfect foil for Arch and Jug. Reg knows very little, but is a self-claimed expert on everything. He's so bad at being bad, he's comical.

Question: Reggie is one of the five main stars and also Archie rival. How do you balance him between friendship and rivalry?

Pellowski: Reggie is like the pain in the neck sibling one is constantly at loggerheads with. He loves to snipe at Archie and Jughead, but would not let a stranger pick on his pals. He's very loyal in a twisted way.

Question: In the lifeguard story, Archie realizes his job is similar to Mr. Weatherbeešs. What does this mean to Archie?

Pellowski: The past continues to repeat itself. What is old always becomes new again. Sometimes the people we believe we resemble he least we have the most in common with.

Question: Does it effect the way he sees Mr. Weatherbee?

Pellowski: Despite their many differences in age, experiences and general outlook, Archie and the Bee are kindred spirits beneath it all.
