COMIC-CON: MONDO MARVEL PANEL

SAN DIEGO -- Marvel Comics kicked off its Comic-Con International programming on Thursday with its Mondo Marvel panel.

Panelists included Joe Quesada, Steve Wacker, Matt Fraction, Paul Tobin, Jason Aaron, Dennis Calero, Frank Tieri, Jeph Loeb, Jim McCann, Christos Gage and C.B. Cebulski.

* Amazing Spider-Man #611 will team up Deadpool and Spider-Man, courtesty of Joe Kelly.

* X-Men Noir: Mark of Cain will be a four-issue mini-series beginning in December. It is written by Fred Van Lente, with art by Dennis Calero.

"It's taking the story even farther and shooting even more people in the face," Calero said.

* Jefte Palo is the artist of Doctor Voodoo: Avengers of the Supernatural, which is being written by Rick Remender.

* Captain America/Black Panther: Flags of Our Fathers is a four-issue Marvel Knights mini-series by Reginald Hudlin and Denys Cowan. It details the full story of the first encounter in World War 2 between Black Panther and Captain America, Quesada said.

The story involves the Third Reich trying to conquer Wakanda for its Vibranium reserves. It is scheduled for early next year.

* Paul Tobin is taking the lead in a new direction for Marvel Adventures, beginning with Marvel Adventures Super Heros #17, beginning in November.

"It's still done in one, but we're doing subplots," Tobin said.

"Paul has taken this on his shoulders and given us a cohesive universe," Quesada said.

Look for an interview with Tobin soon here in The Continuum.

* "Major, major shakeups" are in store for Daredevil, Quesada said, as Andy Diggle picks up from Ed Brubaker.

* Jason Aaron talked about Punisher Max. "One multi-arc story that introduces the MAX version of Wilson Fisk. And where he is, Bullseye can't be far behind."

Aaron said Frank Castle will face an enemy unlike any he ever has and will hit his lowest point.

* Quesada said Marvel is pulling back from the "uber massive event."

* Quesada said he couldn't comment on Rom: Spaceknight.

* Loeb said the idea for Ultimatum was a case where the villains could do anything they wanted to. "The idea was if we literally destroyed the world, what would we do with that?" Loeb said. "Brian (Michael Bendis) and Mark (MIllar) were thrilled with that."

* McCann said that recent larger buffer zone between the release of monthlies and trade paperback collections was a direct result of conversations with retailers to support the sales of individual issues.

* McCann said that Bo Obama will appear in the next issue of Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers.

* McCann said that Runaways #14 will be a "jaw-dropper."

* Asked about what will happen to Stephen Strange, McCann pointed out the upcoming mini-series written by Mark Waid.

* Calero said the Noir X-Men will venture from the Kirby era into the All-New, All-Different era.

* Quesada said that a story dealing with One More Day will probably be discussed toward the end of the year. He said he has sensed the readership has turned in a positive way toward Amazing Spider-Man.

* Quesada said Allan Heinberg is "knee deep" in a "massive" Young Avengers project.
