COMIC-CON: BRYAN LEE O'MALLEY

By Ernie Estrella

SAN DIEGO -- Bryan Lee O'Malley shared his impressions of visiting the set of the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World movie on Thursday at Comic-Con International.

Edgar Wright is directing, Michael Cera is starring as Scott Pilgrim and Mary Elizabeth Winstead is playing his love interest, Ramona Flowers. The movie will be based heavily on the first four books with some material drawn from books five and six, the final graphic novel which O'Malley is currently writing.

"I spent couple of weeks on the set and found the whole process... sort of boring" O'Malley said jokingly. "It was cool though meeting people and watching the filmmaking. The whole thing should be done filming in April including all of the effects.

"None of the flashbacks in the books will be in the movie, it's going to be just one overall story arc; and the fight scenes are going to be way cooler than anything I could ever draw."

Other highlights from the panel:

* Scott Pilgrim #6 will likely be released in 2010.

* McCloud dissected O'Malley's art process with one of his patented slideshows.

* Music has been confirmed by the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack producer, Nigel Goodrich including Beck, Metric, Broken Social Scene, and Japanese band, Cornelius all with original songs.

* O'Malley slipped the mention of a Scott Pilgrim video game in the works but it's too early in development to say more.
