REPORT: FOX TO REBOOT FANTASTIC FOUR

Variety is reporting that 20th Century Fox has "begun overhauling" its Fantastic Four movie franchise.

Fox had no comment on the report.

According to Variety, Akiva Goldsman has been hired to produce the next Fantastic Four film. Michael Green, a co-executive producer of NBC's Heroes and a co-writer on Warner Bros.' Green Lantern, is writing the new FF installment.

Fantastic Four would be Goldsman's first Marvel-based movie. He has a decade-long association with DC Comics movies. He wrote Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, produced Constantine and the upcoming The Losers and Jonah Hex and is attached to produce Teen Titans. He also produced last summer's Hancock.

Fox's previous films in the franchise, 2005's Fantastic Four and 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, were both both directed by Tim Story and both starred Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, Chris Evans and Julian McMahon. Their respective domestic box-office takes were $154.7 milion and $131.9 milion.
