KICK-ASS RELEASE DATE

Lionsgate, which recently acquired the distribution rights to the Kick-Ass movie, has set an April 16 release date.

The film -- based on the Icon series by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., who are co-producers -- is directed by Matthew Vaughn and written by Vaughn and Jane Goldman.

Vaughn privately funded the production of Kick-Ass through his Marv Films and Plan B Entertainment. Lionsgate picked up the rights after a successful preview at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Here's how LIonsgtate describes the movie:

"Kick-Ass tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name -- Kick-Ass -- assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. Therešs only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers.

"His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage)."

DC COMICS, NCSOFT TEAM ON AION COMIC

NCsoft and DC Comics have announced Aivašs Story, a limited-edition comic book based on the upcoming massively multiplayer online release Aion.

The WildStorm comic -- from writers David Noonan and Ricardo Sanchez and artist Neil Googe -- will be made available free with purchase of Aion exclusively at GameStop stores in the United States, as well as Electronic Boutiques in Canada.

Additionally, in conjunction with this weekšs Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, a limited number of copies will be made available free for show attendees in NCsoft's Aion booth.

The comic tells the story of Aiva, a young Asmodian warrior who vows vengeance against the Elyos who killed her family during a raid. Aiva trains ceaselessly, hoping to become a Daeva and someday find her nemesis on the battlefields of the Abyss (where only Daevas can go).

The Aion MMO launches on Sept. 22.
