JOSH BROLIN TALKS JONAH HEX

Josh Brolin appeared on NBC's The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien on Tuesday and spent a good portion of his segment talking about his starring role in the Jonah Hex movie.

Brolin said he pushed for John Malkovich for the villain's role in the film, noting that he's scarier than some in-your-face villains.

"With John, you can feel the anger start to surface and then John may look for something, like maybe there's a poodle there," Brolin said. "And John will pick up a poodle and start to pet the poodle. And he won't be looking at you and he may start to recite a poem or something.

"And to me that's far scarier than somebody actually screaming in your face."

Brolin also talked about a fight scene with Malkovich.

"He did amazingly. He was in incredibly good shape. And I think I wound up breaking his thumb," Brolin said, noting that Malkovich calmly asked him to pull this thumb back into place after the actors' skirmish in a scene.

Brolin said making out with co-star Megan Fox "was nice" but noted it was uncomfortable because of the prosthetic he wore as Jonah Hex. "There's kind of a rope-idermis halfway on my face," he said.

APE ENTERTAINMENT'S SCRATCH9

Ape Entertainment has announced a summer launch for Scratch9, a mini-series that is part of its newly unveiled KiZoic young readers imprint.

The series is created and written by Rob M. Worley, with art by Jason T. Kruse.

Here's how Ape describes the book:

"Scratch9 features the adventures of a rascally house cat who gains the ability to summon any of his eight other lives to his side to aid him in his adventures. "

The four-issue series features covers by Mike Kunkel.

"The second that co-publisher Brent Erwin and I saw Scratch9, we knew it was a hit in the making," said Ape Entertainment co-publisher David Hedgecock. "Perfect premise matched by an outstanding creative team."

The book is the second announced offering in Ape Entertainment's KiZoic line, following Mecha-Nation.

"I couldn't be more excited to be doing this book with Ape. They've been doing kids comics since day one and I knew Scratch9 would fit right in," Worley said. "And there are some huge things coming from KiZoic."
