WONDERCON: IMAGE COMICS

SAN FRANCISCO -- Image Comics presented its The Image Comics Show on Saturday at WonderCon with several announcements.

Following is a rundown:

* Richard Starkings' Elephantmen has been optioned as a movie.

Elephantmen #25 will be a special issue in which the story will be told by a series of guest-artist providing splash pages. Artists include Dave Gibbons, Tim Sale and Pia Guerra.

* An upcoming story arc in Savage Dragon will be called "Emperor Dragon." Following the events of the dragon War, Savage Dragon remains his evil self, Emperor Kurr. Without the opposition to stop him, the ex-cop, ex-superhero makes a play to conquer the planet.

* Savage Dragon Funnies is a 12-issue series of backup stories that starts with May's Savage Dragon #160. Creators include Michel Fiffe, Andrew Dimitt, Kiel West, Delsante and Freire, Ulises Farinas, Chris Sanderson, Conoro Hughes, Kat Roberts, Hyendo Park, Pedro Camargo, Jason Thibodeaux, Joe Keatinge and Deep 6 Studio.

* 50 Girls 50 is a mini-series launching in August from Frank Cho and Doug Murray. Alex Medellin, the winner of a talent search curated by Cho and Murray, is illustrating based on designs by Cho.

* Joe Casey announced his new one-shot, created with Chris Burnham: Officer Downe. A lone "Badass With A Badge" takes on the scourge of the criminal underworld -- even from beyond the grave. It is scheduled for July.

* Steven Seagle announced the collection of The Crusades, his tale of an enigmatic 11th century Crusader that renders terrible justice on 21st century San Francisco. The first nine issues of the series, originally published by Vertigo and drawn by Kelley Jones, will be collected in The Crusades Vol. 1 in July.

* Scheduled for the fall is Frankie Stein, a full-color, oversized children's book drawn by Marco Cinello.

* UK television host Jonathan Ross is teaming with Tommy Lee Edwards on Turf, a five-issue series that begins on April 7.
