C2E2: MONDO MARVEL

CHICAGO -- Marvel Comics' first panel at C2E2 on Friday -- Mondo Marvel -- carried a handful of announcements of new projects.

Panelists included Joe Quesada, Majorie Liu, Jim McCann, Jonathan Hickman, Jeph Loeb, Christos Gage, C.B. Cebulski, Tom Breebort, Nate Cosby and Alejandro Arbona.

Following are highlights:

* About Steve Rogers: Super Soldier, Brevoort said Rogers will deal with a particular case dating back to the origin of Super Soldier Serum. "It's going to set stuff up we'll be playing with for some time to come," Brevoort said. The mini-series is by Ed Brubaker and Dale Eaglesham, with covers by Carlos Pacheco.

* Captain America: Patriot is a four-issue mini-series by Karl Kesel and Mitch Breitweiser that begins in September. It features Jeff Mace, who followed Steve Rogers in an ill-fated attempt as the second Captain America.

"It's the lost story of the lost Captain America," Brevoort said.

* A logo with a "3" instead of the usual "4" from Fantastic Four was shown. "Something is obviously is going to happen with that," Hickman said of Fantastic Four. "Four will become three."

* Shadowland is a five-issue series that begins in July, by Andy Diggle and Billy Tan.

A video of editor editor Steve Wacker was shown.

"It's a battle for the streets of New York," Wacker said, noting such characters as Spider-Man, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Moon Knight and the Thunderbolts will appear in a street-level story. Ghost Rider and Elektra were also shown.

In the series, Daredevil's created the Shadowland temple in Hell's Kitchen and taken the law into his own hands. Daredevil #507-511 also is part of the story.

* Writer Christos Gage revealed the instructors of Avengers Academy: Tigra, Justice Quicksilver, Hank Pym and Speedball.

"All the characters are really intersting to me for a variety of reasons," Gage said. "They all have a bunch of baggage."

Gage noted the Speedball putting Penance behind him is "not as easy as changing clothes." He also praised the art of Mike McKone. Christos Gage.

* Marvel Universe vs. the Punisher was announced.

* A three-issue Gorilla Man series starts in July, written by Jeff Parker with art by Angel Caracuzzo.

"He killed a gorila and became a gorilla so now a bunch of people want to kill him so they can become a gorilla," Cosby said.

Thor: The MIghty Avenger is what Cosby described as "a reimagination of Thor in sort of all-ages type of vein."

The series is written by Roger Langrdige, with art by Chris Samnee. Cosby set up the story as a lady curator at a museum finding a "Norse hobo."

* Ultimate Comics Mystery, a four-issue series, continues Brian Michael Bendis' trilogy, beginning in July. Art is by Rafa Sandoval.

* Avengers & The Infinity Gauntlet #1 is a four-issue story, written by Brian Clevinger, with art by Brian Churilla.

"It's Brian Clevinger's reimagination of the Infinity Gauntlet," Cosby said. "I told him to read Infinity Gauntlet, forget everything about Infinity Gauntlet and tell your own version of the story."

Hit-Monkey returns in a three-issue mini-series starting in July, written by Daniel Way, with art by Dalibor Talijic.

* Spider-Man/Fantastic Four is a four-issue mini-series starting in July, written by Christos Gage, with art by Mario Alberti.
