MONDAY, JUNE 28, 2010MARVEL APPOINTS JEPH LOEB HEAD OF TELEVISIONMarvel Entertainment has announced that it has appointed comics and television veteran Jeph Loeb as Executive Vice President, Head of Television, a newly created division of Marvel Entertainment.
In this role, Loeb will work alongside Dan Buckley, Publisher & President of the Print, Animation & Digital Divisions, Marvel Worldwide, Inc., to translate Marvel's characters and stories to the television medium, in both live-action and animation formats.
Loeb also will oversee the development and distribution of live-action, animated and direct-to-DVD series.
The announcement was made by Alan Fine, Executive Vice President, Office of the President and Chairman of Marvel Studios' Creative Committee, and by Buckley, to whom Loeb will report.
"It's with tremendous pride that I announce the creation of our Marvel Television division and the appointment of Jeph Loeb as Executive Vice President," Fine said. "His work in the comic book field is in a class of its own, showing his passion and talent for bringing Marvel's finest characters to life in an innovative manner. Jeph's work on multiple award-winning television series and popular films has shown fans worldwide his ability to deliver thrilling entertainment in a number of media. With Jeph as our EVP, fans will experience the highest quality and most exciting television projects featuring their favorite Marvel characters."

TOMMY LEE JONES IN CAPTAIN AMERICAMarvel Studios has announced that Tommy Lee Jones will play U.S. Army Colonel Chester Phillips in Captain America: The First Avenger.
In the comics, Phillips recruits Steve Rogers to join Project: Rebirth.
Jones joins a cast that includes Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Sebastian Stan as Bucky and Stanley Tucci as Dr. Erskine.
Captain America is scheduled for a July 22, 2011 release.

* Archie Comics has announced a parnternship with Toys R Us for a presence at all 585 United States stores.
The Archie comic book and both Sonic titles, Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Universe, will be in a special rack located in the collectors section of Toys R Us stores. The new magazine Life with Archie will be featured at checkout.
* The Surrogates movie is now available through Starz's OnDemand service.
The film will premiere on Starz on Saturday, July 31 at 9 p.m.
