VIDEO: ANDREW GARFIELD, THE NEW SPIDER-MAN

The selection of Andrew Garfield as the new movie Spider-Man was revealed Thursday at a press event in Cancun, Mexico for international journalists attending a media tour promoting upcoming films from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Garfield was introduced by director Marc Webb and producers Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin.

MARVEL COMICS ROUNDUP

Marvel Comics has announced a series of Vampire Variant covers for October.

The publisher has unveiled four of them: Avengers Academy #5 by J.S. Rossbach, Hulk #26 by Salva Espin, Invincible Iron Man #31 by Salvador Larroca and New Avengers #5 by Stephanie Perger.

In other Marvel news:

* The publisher has released two teaser images for Uncanny X-Men #527. The issue -- by Matt Fraction and Whilce Portacio -- kicks off "The Five Lights" story arc, and the teaser images are under "A New Generational of Hope" banner.

* Marvel has announced a second printing for The Death of Dracula. It will arrive in stores on August 4.

ZIGGY MARLEY'S MARIJUANAMAN

Image Comics has announced that Grammy Award-winning musician Ziggy Marley will be attending Comic-Con International in San Diego on Saturday, July 24 to promote his new comic book, Marijuanaman.

Marley will appear with co-writer Joe Casey and artist Jim Mahfood.

Here is how Image describes the book:

"Marijuanaman, is from a planet that is in desperate need of THC. Marijuanaman seeks to save Earth's marijuana fields from destruction by the drug company PharmeXon, and thus saving his home planet from destruction."

"I have been reading comics since I was a little boy in Jamaica," Marley said. "I am very excited to be a part of Image Comics, Comic-Con and the comic book community."

The book will debut on April 20, 2011.

* Archaia Comics has unveiled the final cover to Lucid #1, which will premiere at Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 22-25.

The four-issue mini-series is by Michael McMillian and Anna Wieszczyk and is the first joint project between Archaia and Before the Door. Lucid follows the adventures of Matthew Dee, a Combat Mage and covert spy whose skills earn him the appointment of "Protector of the Realm" by the President of the United States. Dee's mission is to protect America from dark forces that are conspiring to prevent humankind from reaching its true magic potential.

* According to Variety, Mad Men star Abigail Spencer as joined the cast of Cowboys & Aliens. The film is scheduled for a July 29, 2011 release.
