HUMAN TARGET: SEASON 2

SAN DIEGO -- A new cast member has been announced for Fox's The Human Target for Season 2. Indira Varma from HBO's Rome will play Ilsa in the show.

"The idea was to bring in two new female characters into the season and see how these guys deal with them," said new showrunner Matthew MIller at last weekend's Comic-Con International.

Ilsa will be introduced in the season opener, which will air on Friday, Sept. 24.

"She is a woman who is married to a millionaire, like a Paul Allen type, who died under mysterious circumstance and so she has to come to Chance and team because she feel like her life is going to be in danger," Miller said.

Ilsa decides that Chance's team could be of use to the world and winds up buying the organization, becoming almost "a female Charlie," Miller said. She becomes the boss and gives Chance greater finances to work with, providing a worldwide scope to the show.

The second female character will be younger and has not been cast yet. Miller describes her as a "22-year-old who has been a despicable thief," with a similar backstory to Chance or Guerrero.

"I think it's going to set up a lot of great tension, a lot of great comedy, a lot of really dramatic scenes," said Chi McBride, who plays Winston. "Indira is such a great actress and she's not bad to look at, too."

Series star Mark Valley said it will be an interesting dynamic with new tests of loyalty. "We're going to have a little more inherent conflict going on within the family. It will put less pressure on our guest-stars and antagonists to provide the charm and charisma."

Miller said the cases in Season 2 will not only present challenges to the team, they will also reveal insights into the show's main characters. One of the episodes deals with a client whose husband Chance had killed seven years earlier.

On the new Friday time slot, Miller said "Yeah, it's not always the best time slot, but I think The X-Files did pretty well there for a number of years."

Miller said Jackie Earle Haley's Guererro character is best served when he is mysterious.

Valley said it is important for Chance to have people to believe in him. "His conscience sort of caught up with him," he said.

Miller said Baptiste will return in the season's fourth episode. Maria will also return.

One of the clients will have amnesia. "It turns everyone is trying to kill him because he's like the worst guy on the planet," Miller said.
