DC SHOWCASE ORIGINAL SHORTS COLLECTION

Warner Home Video has announced a Nov. 9 release for DC Showcase Original Shorts Collection, the first quartet of animated adventures featuring the never-before-seen Superman/Shazam! The Return of Black Adam.

The collection will be available as a Special Edition Blu-Ray for $29.99 and a single-disc DVD for $19.98.

Here's how Warner describes the 22-minute Superman/Shazam! entry:

"Clark Kent's latest interview subject is street kid Billy Batson. What Clark doesn't know is that Billy is more than a feisty kid with a lot of heart -- he has been chosen by an ancient wizard to represent the good of man as the World's Mightiest Mortal just by invoking the name of the wizard, 'Shazam!' Billy's powers come none-too-soon, as he also discovers he's being pursued by a centuries' old, murderous villain, Black Adam -- a foe so powerful, even Superman can't stop him alone."

The cast includes Jerry O'Connell as Captain Marvel, George Newbern reprising his Justice League role as Superman, Arnold Vosloo as Black Adam and James Garner as The Wizard.

The piece was written by Michael Jelenic and directed by Joaquim Dos Santos.

The collection will also include shorts featuring The Spectre, Jonah Hex and Green Arrow.

Warner released a description of the Green Arrow short, which first will be featured with Superman/Batman: Apocalypse:

"At the Star City International Airport to pick up his girlfriend, Oliver Queen is forced into action as Green Arrow to protect the 10-year-old Princess of Vlatava from his old nemesis Merlyn the Magnificent and the League of Assassins."

NECROMANCER IN TOP COW UNIVERSE

Top Cow Productions has released details about Necromancer's entrance in the Top Cow Universe beginning with Witchblade #137, a standalone story in stores on August 11.

The issue -- from the regular Witchblade team of Ron Marz and Stjepan Sejic -- finds Detective Sara Pezzini, bearer of the Witchblade, gaining an important ally in Abby van Alstine, the Necromancer, but only if Sara can keep her alive. Abby's visit to New York City is interrupted by a demonic attack, and her only chance for survival is entering the world of the Witchblade.

"The Top Cow Universe is an evolving and organic world and as we began to put the pieces in place for Artifacts, we realized Necromancer would fit perfectly into the grander puzzle," said Top Cow Publisher Filip Sablik. "Abby is a rich, strong character and her inclusion in the Top Cow Universe will introduce a whole new audience to her story."

The Necromancer originally debuted in a 2005 mini-series by writer Joshua Ortega and artist Francis Manapul.
