NYCC: MARVEL COMICS -- NEXT BIG THING

Marvel Comics announced Ultimate Captain America at its Next Big Thing panel at New York Comic Con on Sunday.

The mini-series will be written by Jason Aaron, with art by Ron Garney, and will launch in January. Aaron said the book involved a version of Captain America during the Vietnam War who comes back to show Steve Rogers what he missed and that the identity of the character will be familiar to Marvel readers.

The panel include Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning, Brian Michael Bendis, Jeph Loeb, Fred Van Lente, Greg Pak, Dan Slott, Jason Aaron and Mark Paniccia.

Following are other highlights:

* Marvel released art from Chaos War #2.

* Abnett and Lanning will follow Thanos Imperative with a Devastation one-shot. Art is by Miguel Sepulveda.

* Abnett and Lanning are writing Heroes for Hire. It will have rotating members, some of whom are unaware and are being manipulated. A surprise ending to the first issue is promised.

* in Amazing Spider-Man, writer Dan Slott said Peter Parker will get a new job, a new arsenal of weapons and new costumes, one of which will be in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Hobgoblin will return, as will Mac Gargan as Scorpion.

* Fantastic Four #587 will come in a black polybag as one of the members dies. Paolo Rivera will be doing covers to celebrate the Fantastic Four's 50th anniversary.

* The Hulk will appear in Ultimate Comics X #4. The book has been delayed because artist Arthur Adams became a father recently.

* Bendis said there will be lots of Jessica Jones in New Avengers, leading up to a new Alias mini-series.

* Marvel released art from Sara Pichelli, who will rotate with David Lafuente on Ultimate Comics Spider-Man beginning with #15. Her first story arc will start with the renumbered title's #151.
