JOHN KRASINSKI: SPIDER-MAN?

John Krasinski came to Jimmy Kimmel's rescue -- as Spider-Man -- on Thursday night.

Kimmel needed a guest for his Jimmy Kimmel Live! show on ABC when originally scheduled Ryan Seacrest had to cancel because of his American Idol duties. Krasinski, the star of NBC's The Office and a friend of Kimmel's, substituted -- but had to be plucked off Hollywood Boulevard, where he was among the costumed characters as Spder-Man.

BRIEFLY

* 20th Century Fox has released an official description for X-Men First Class, which will arrive in theaters on June 3.

Here's how the film -- directed by Matthew Vaughn -- is described:

"X-Men First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men."

* Top Cow Productions has announce that the winner of its Pilot Season 2010 initiative is 39 Minutes, by William Harms and Jerry Lando. The 39 Minutes series will begin in 2011.
