Marvel Comics has announced Herc, an ongoing series beginning in April by Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente and artist Neil Edwards.

Here's how Marvel describes the book:

"It's Hercules like you've never seen him before as he sets out on an action-packed epic of monumental proportions that will keep fans on the edge of their seats and demanding more! Discover what happens when the Earth's most formidable warrior is forced to cut a swath of destruction through the very core of the Marvel Universe."

Hercules will be armed with the keys to Ares' abandoned armory.

"This ain't the heavenly spires of Mount Olympus, the plush comforts of Avengers Tower or some hot night club known where the body shots are on the house. Herc's in the dark alleys of the Marvel Universe -- the mean streets of New York," said editor Mark Paniccia. "There's no one to watch his back and, if he doesn't play it smart, he can be maimed...or even killed. The easy days of life as a god are over."

Covers are by Carlo Pagulayan, with a variant for the first issue by John Romita Jr. The first two issues will arrive in stores in April.

"The response to Fantastic Four #587 has been phenomenal and we want to thank the retailers for supporting the book to make this a success. It's because of them we're able to bring this acclaimed run to people outside the industry," said David Gabriel of Marvel's sales department. "With all the extra attention our books have acquired recently, it's tough trying to keep all of our critically acclaimed titles on store shelves so they're readily available for fans new and old."

Marvel also announced a second printings for Invincible Iron Man #500, Amazing Spider-Man #651 and Amazing Spider-Man #652. All will be on sale on Feb. 23.
