THE SUPER HERO SQUAD SHOW: "PEDICURE AND FACIAL OF DOOM!"

Marvel has released four images from "Pedicure and Facial of Doom!," the new episode of The Super Hero Squad Show airing at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday on Cartoon Network.

Here's how the episode is described:

"Constantly saving Super Hero City is stressful work, and Coco Von Doom's Latverian Day Spa is the perfect place for our heroes to unwind! That's right -- Doctor Doom's calamitous mother has renovated his sinister Latverian Castle into a soothing haven where the Squaddies can relax...or so they think! Little do they know that this calm Spa Day is really a ploy for Mama Doom to capture the Squaddies. But in order to take back his rightful throne and stop his mother and her villainous minion, Chthon, Doom will have to free his sworn enemies -- the Super Hero Squad!"

The episode was writen by Richard Pursel, whose credits include SpongeBob SquarePants and The Ripping Friends.

"I've been a huge fan of the Marvel Universe since childhood, but this was my first chance writing for these characters and I loved it!" Pursel told The Continuum. "I've written for Charlie Adler though, who does the voice of Dr. Doom and Doom's mother, Coco Von Doom. When Matt Wayne told me the characters I'd be writing for, and that Charlie plays Mama Doom like Bette Davis, I knew I could write something seriously funny!

"Charlie was the voice of I. R. Baboon for the Hanna-Barbera/Cartoon Network cartoon I Am Weasel, which was part of the Cow and Chicken half hour. I. R. spoke in broken English and there's a line in SHS's 'Pedicure and Facial of Doom' where Dr. Doom is befuddled with his mother's Super-Chill mist and he says, 'I are confused' the same way he did for my Weasel cartoons, so a nod to our past."

Mark Hamill provides the voice of Chthon.

MARVEL COMICS NEWS ROUNDUP

Marvel Comics has announced a May launch for Fear Itself: Youth in Revolt, a six-issue mini-series from writer Sean McKeever and artists Mike Norton.

Here's how Marvel describes the book:

"In the wake of the Civil War, the Initiative would have been there to marshal the heroes of tomorrow against any force of evil, no matter how great. But for the heroes-in-training who managed to survive Norman OsbornŐs corrupt regime, there's only one honorable response to yet another call for mandatory service -- run!

"Unregistered and untested, the former Initiative trainees will learn fast that even super-heroes have to cope with the horrors of war and the cost may be higher than they ever imagined! Can this team of youngsters push back the forces of Fear Itself and make it out on one piece?"

"With Youth in Revolt, we're taking a look at how a palpable sense of fear and despair can affect the younger generation of heroes," McKeever said. "In the first issue, they're deputized by the federal government in anticipation of terrible things to come, but what then? When they're rushed into action without any strategy, who suffers? When things get out of hand, who will step up and who will crumble? And how well can they stand up to their own fears?"

The book will cost $2.99. The cover to #1 is by Guiseppe Camuncoli.
