MARVEL TO PUBLISH CASTLE GRAPHIC NOVEL

Marvel Entertainment and ABC Studios have announced Castle: Richard Castle's Deadly Storm, a hardcover graphic novel inspired by the ABC's Castle television series.

The 112-page book will be in stores on Sept. 28, and the cover will be featured on "Knockout," the season finale of Castle on Monday.

When viewers first met Richard Castle, he had reached celebrity author status with the success of his Derrick Storm mystery novels. The graphic novel will feature the adventures of Derrick Storm from writers Brian Michael Bendis and Kelly Sue DeConnick and artist Lan Medina. The cover is by Carlo Pagulayan.

"We are incredibly excited to be partnering with marvel to bring Richard Castle's early literary works to life," said Andrew W. Marlowe, Castle creator/executive producer. "It's a great way to expand the Castle universe for all our fans."

The release of Castle: Richard Castle's Deadly Storm marks the first adaptation, in any medium, of the Derrick Storm novels by New York Times best-selling author Richard Castle.

"It's exciting to bring the Derrick Storm novels to life for the first time ever" said Axel Alonso, Marvel's editor-in-chief "Whether you're new to the world of Castle or a long time fan, there's something for everyone in Castle: Richard Castle's Deadly Storm -- and it's the kind of book that reaffirms Marvel's commitment to creating new fans of comic books."

SAVAGE DRAGON ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL

Image Comics has announced that Savage Dragon #175 in August will be a special 48-page anninversary issue.

"I've really run Dragon through the ringer over the last few years," Savage Dragon creator Erik Larsen said. "Even though he'd essentially been killed by a mind-and-body-snatching monster called Virus back in issue #147 and then again by Overlord in #150, when it came to wrapping up the 'Emperor Dragon' saga, it became pretty clear that even with all the body-switching shenanigans, things couldn't just go back to the way they were.

"I knew he had to die... but what then? After focusing on Dragon's son Malcolm for several issues, Savage Dragon #175 answers that question. Definitively, I hope!"

Written, penciled and inked by Larsen, with a Vanguard back-up story by writer Gary Carlson and artist Frank Fosco, Savage Dragon #175 promises to set the stage for the next several years' worth of Dragon tales.

Here's how Image describes the issue:

"The story itself focuses both on Malcolm Dragon, as he faces his greatest challenge yet in the form of the nigh-omnipotent Overlord, while someone who looks an awful lot like his dead father tries to make sense of a new life and a new reality when he finds himself aboard a spaceship headed for parts unknown."

Savage Dragon #175 will cost $4.99 and will be in stores on August 31.
