NYCC: MARVEL AVENGERS - SHATTERED HEROES PANEL

Marvel Comics staged its Avengers - Shattered Heroes panel on Saturday morning at New York Comic Con.

Panelists included editor-in-chief Axel Alonso, edtiors Tom Brevoort and Lauren Sankovich, coordinator C.B. Cebulski, writers Matt Fraction, Kieron Gillen, Christos Gage and Cullen Bunn and marketing's Arune Singh.

* The ending of Fear Itself was discussed. Brevoort said all of the events are different.

* Following Fear Itself #7 will be the #7.1, #7.2 and #7.3 issues featuring Captain America, Thor and Iron Man. Fraction said it was important for Ed Brubaker to write the Captain America issue to eulogize Bucky. "it's a tremendous job," he said.

Fraction noted that Fear Itself #7 doesn't really address what the events mean, and the follow-ups deal with the ramifications. In the Iron Man issue, Tony Stark confronts the Grey Gargoyle and Iron Man yelling at Odin.

* Bunn talked about Fear Itself: The Fearless, noting it is about what happens to the hammers, and the pursuit by Sin and Valkyrie. "It's a travelogue of action," he said. Bunn is working with Fraction and Chris Yost on the book and said that presented a new way of writing for him.

Brevoort noted the book will ship twice a month. A whole plot from the story was too big for the story and was made into Battle Scars, which will involve a mysterious character, Marcus Johnson.

It's about a soldier who comes home to find his life had blown up, Fraction said, and he discovers he has a greater destiny.

* Fraction talked about The Defenders, launching in December and featuring the art of Terry Dodson. It spins out of Fear Itself, with the Hulk needing help and what Fraction called "an impossible threat."

* Stephen Platt, Ian Churchill and Steve Skroce are doing variant covers for Avengers: X-Sanction, the mini-series returning Cable by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness.

* Storm is joining the Avengers with #21 (see image above).

* Rick Remender and Gabriel Hardman are the new creative team on Secret Avengers. Hawkeye will be the new leader of the team, which will also include Captain Britain and more Giant-Man.

Brevoort said it's Remender bringing the craziness from X-Force and Venom to an Avengers title.

* Avengers Academy #27 in March will pit Avengers Academy vs. the Runaways. X-23 will join the team in #23.

* Fraction said that the things are going to get worse for Tony Stark in Invicible Iron Man. Many of Iron Man's villains will get updates, such as Living Laser.

* Gillen said Journey into Mystery will have a holiday story.

* The original Thunderbolts take on the current team in Thunderbolts #171. Mark Bagley provides covers for the story arc.
