MARVEL COMICS NEWS ROUNDUP

Marvel Comics has announced a March launch for Toy Story, a four-issue series in conjunction with Disney Publishing and based on the Disney-Pixar movies.

"Everyone loves Toy Story, so we're excited to team with our friends at Disney-Pixar to bring readers all new stories of our favorite characters from these blockbuster films," said Axel Alonso, Marvel's editor-in-chief. "Toy Story allows us to bring great new material to the market that's not only perfect for kids, but also a great read for fans of all ages. What's next for Woody and Buzz in these stories? We can't wait for you to find out!"

Here's how Marvel describes the first issue:

"Andy's new puppy, Buster, loves to play with toys -- but if Woody, Buzz and the gang can't control the playful pooch, all that chewing and shaking will leave them in a world of hurt! Will our heroes make it through in one piece with batteries intact?"

Toy Story #1 is written by Tea Orsi, with art by Antonello Dalena and Teresa Quezada-Geer and a cover by Marco Ghiglione and Silvano Scolari.

In other Marvel news:

* The publisher has announced John Carter: The Gods of Mars #1, from the creative team of Sam Humphries and Ramon Perez and launching in March.

The series is considered part of the official canon by the Edgar Rice Burroughs estate.

"Gods of Mars is going to be a blast -- tons of action and intrigue in a fantastic environment," Humphries said. "From Landridge and Andrade to Edgar Rice Burroughs himself, there's an impressive foundation of awesome John Carter stories to build on. Combined with Marvel having the most exciting comics going on right now, and most talented editors in the industry -- I can't wait to get myself to Mars."
