VALIANT'S TALKING COMIC-BOOK COVER

Valiant has announced the X-O Manowar #1 QR Voice Variant -- the first QR code-augmented, talking comic book cover.

Starting Wednesday, Valiant is shipping thousands of interactive, retailer-exclusive posters to preview the stunt.

"We want fans worldwide to know that something special is happening in their local comic shop during the build-up to May 2 and the launch of the new Valiant Universe," said Valiant chief creative officer Dinesh Shamdasani. "Valiant's QR Voice Variant is not only a new innovation in comics and a true incentive for retailers, but an enhanced and immersive experience for fans as well. By merging elements of print and digital, we've hopefully created something that fans will just have to see in person!"

Illustrated by Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic, scripted by Robert Venditti and animated by New York's Continuity Studios, both the cover and promotional poster will direct smartphone users to a video of X-O Manowar delivering a speech directly to comic readers.

X-O Manowar #1 -- by Venditti and Cory Nordy -- arrives on May 2 and begins the journey of Valiant's greatest hero anew, when a Visigoth warrior dons an alien-armored weapon of incalculable destruction, igniting the Valiant Universe in the process.

"From a storytelling standpoint alone, the technology we're employing here holds enormous potential," said Valiant Executive Editor Warren Simons. "For the first time anywhere, and exclusively on the printed page, Valiant can literally give its characters a voice."

BRIEFLY

* AMC has released a preview clip from "Judge, Jury, Executioner," the episode of The Walking Dead premiering on Sunday.

To watch the clip, CLICK HERE.

* Dark Horse Comics has announced that its Free Comic Book Day offerings will include a four-page Alabaster story from Caitlin R. Kiernan and Steve Lieber.

The property premiered in last week's Dark Horse Presents #9.

Two pages of Alabaster will appear in each of the FCBD offerings. The story will give readers a glimpse into Dancy's world and the blurry line that separates her from the angels she serves -- and the monsters she hunts.

* Zenescope Entertainment has announced a second printing for the sold-out for Alice in Wonderland #1.

* Moriarty creator Daniel Corey has announced he is partnering with composer Raymond Schnurr to create a new stage musical based on his Image Comics series.

Currently titled Moriarty, the stage musical will be loosely based on the first story arc, Moriarty: The Dark Chamber. Corey will be writing the story, and Schnurr - who is also currently scoring We Can Get It For You Wholesale for Neil Gaiman - will be composing the music. Corey and Schnurr will collaborate on lyrics.

"I am very excited to be collaborating with Ray on the upcoming Moriarty stage musical," Corey said. "Ray is very in tune with the sort of storytelling style and sensibility that Anthony and I have worked so hard to convey with this series. This show will be epic in scale, and Ray's music will bring that extra level of dynamite that will be sure to knock the audience into the abyss where the Professor resides. It will be a dark journey, but an exciting and entertaining one."
