WONDERCON: MARVEL COMICS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Marvel Comics made several announcements at its Next Big Thing panel at WonderCon in Anaheim, Calif., on Sunday.
Following is a rundown:
* Thunderbolts becomes Dark Avengers with #175 in June. Creators include writer Jeff Parker and artists Kev Walker and Declan Salvey. Luke Cage leads the new team.
* Parker is teaming with Dale Eaglesham on "Mayan Rule," a story dealing with the Mayan prophecy. Alpha Flight and Machine Man guest-star.
* Brian Wood is the new writer of Ultimate Comics X-Men as of #13, with art by Carlo Barberi, and X-Men as of #30, with art by David Lopez.

MARVEL COMICS FIRST LOOKS

BRIEFLY
* The first image of
Stephen Amell as Green Arrow from The CW pilot Arrow has been released. The suit was designed by Academy Award-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood.
Arrow is from screenwriters Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg. David Nutter, who directed the pilots for Smallville and Supernatural, is directing the pilot fo Arrow.
"When I directed the pilot for 'Smallville,' I knew that making Clark Kent relatable would be the key to audiences believing in him as a hero," Nutter said "Arrow is a different show -- darker and harder-edged -- but it's the same core idea. We're creating a real, believable world in which Oliver Queen can do incredible things. Colleen Atwood's great work on the Arrow costume reflects that effort."

* After the Season 2 finale of AMC's The Walking Dead, comics creator/TV show executive producer Robert Kirkman announced that Danai Gurira will be playing Michonne in Season 3.
A hooded Michonne was shown briefly in the season finale, saving Andrea from a zombie.
