IDW has announced a July launch for The Cape: 1969, an origin mini-series featuring a story by Joe Hill and Jason Ciaramella and art and colors by Nelson Daniel.

Original series artist Zach Howard will return to provide covers for The Cape: 1969 and will contribute special images to the interiors as well.

Here's how IDW describes The Cape: 1969:

"When a medevac helicopter is shot down over enemy territory against the raging, chilling backdrop of the Vietnam War, a crew of American soldiers must battle strange terrain and the cunning, native Vietcong for survival. As hours pass without hope for a rescue, both sides discover something more terrifying and deadly yet."

"Seeing the first mini-series for The Cape come together was electrifying: Jason Ciaramella, Zach Howard, and Nelson Daniel cooked up something wonderfully weird and nasty and surprising, a dark and powerful character story," Hill said. "Also, they allowed a flying psycho to drop a baby grizzly bear on some cops. So that was awesome.

"In that first run, the team explored what would happen if an incredible power fell into the hands of a sociopath. In this new one, Jason and Nelson join forces to reveal the dark origin of that power. I can't wait."

In other IDW news:

* An ongoing Womanthology: Space! comic book series, inspired from the Womanthology: Heroic graphic novel, will launch in September.

"Womanthology: Heroic was such a big, wonderful experience, and not in my wildest dreams could I have hoped that it would go on to further adventures!" said project manage Renae De Liz.

"I hope that Womanthology: Space! is just the start of a long line of amazing books that further open doors for women in comics everywhere. I hope this will be a continued outlet to have their work showcased and appreciated, and help many take that next big step towards a career in comics.

"Again there will be all ages and experience levels accepted. This has always been so important to me, as I know first hand how even one show of support can offer so much confidence and motivation in your work. This not only helps aspiring creators gain valuable experiences and a platform to help further careers, but it also allows established professionals to reach out and lend their comics knowledge and know how."

Each issue of the series will include three stories, with a sub-theme. There will also be pin-ups and ongoing mini-comics.

* The Season 2 finale of The Walking Dead on AMC on Sunday night drew 9.0 million viewers, topping its previous best of 8.1 million.
