C2E2: SHIA LABEOUF

Shia LaBeouf, star of the Transformers movies, made an impromptu and unannounced appearance at C2E2 on Friday to promote his self-made comic books.

LaBeouf and his girlfriend, Karolyn Pho, were at Artists Alley next to George Perez, signing his three comic book titles and taking pictures with surprised fans.

It's part of a low-key attempt by LaBeouf to gather momentum for his comic books. He has directly contacted comic shops across the country to send them his books.

The Continuum caught up with LaBeouf after C2E2 closed on Friday night, with the main floor lights off.

According to event officials, LaBeouf reserved his table space only for Friday.

C2E2: DARK HORSE COMICS ROUNDUP

Dark Horse Comics has announced a Nov. 28 launch for Ex Sanguine, a new series from Tim Seeley.

"Ex Sanguine is my take on the vampire-romance genre, but instead of being full of longing and anguished staring, it's full of brutal flirtations between two savage predators, one a vampire, one a serial killer," Seeley said.

Here's how Dark Horse describes the book:

"One is a natural-born killer -- a remorseless hunter of men restlessly prowling the night for victims to quench an unnatural bloodlust. The other, Saul Adams, is a vampire. A bored vampire. His centuries of existence have left him world weary and detached, lost in a haze of endless memories for days or weeks on end. His latest bout of preoccupation is mercifully interrupted by federal agents.

"They insinuate Saul's complicity in the latest of a series of murders that have come to be known as “The Sanguine Killings.” Saul ignores these accusations, having eyes only for the bits of crime scenes they show him. The Sanguine Killer doesn't just kill; he also paints primal pictographs in his victims' blood. Where the feds see murderous compulsion and rage in the intricate patterns of Xs left on walls and sidewalks by the killer, Saul sees something different: Craft. Art."

In other Dark Horse news from C2E2:

* With Sequential Pulp Comics, Dark Horse will co-publish Athena Voltaire from Steve Bryant.

In addition to covering representational rights, the exclusive print and digital publishing agreement calls for an omnibus edition containing remastered versions of the previously published Athena Voltaire material followed by new adventures, including two graphic novels and an illustrated prose anthology.

"Steve and I share a common love for all things pulp and for telling great stories. His character, Athena Voltaire, could not be a better fit for our line of graphic novels," said Sequential Pulp president Michael Hudson. "These stories will have a beginning, a middle, and a true end to them, giving the reader a complete and fulfilling experience. The art and the writing are masterful. I can't wait to see how Steve and his team develop this wonderful property as we move ahead."

"I can't think of a better home for Athena Voltaire than the Sequential Pulp imprint. Their commitment to adapting genre classics and creating new pulp icons is second to none," Bryant said. "To be published through Dark Horse is the cherry on top."
