THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN MOVIE ROUNDUP

The Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) organization -- in association with The Amazing Spider-Man movie -- has launched a line of special co-branded t-shirts.

Laura Ziskin -- a producer of the Spider-Man movie franchise and a co-founder of SU2C -- had cancer and died during production of The Amazing Spider-Man last June.

The co-branded t-shirts feature Stand Up To Cancer's signature upward arrows logo with slogans such as, "Be Amazing, Stand Up To Cancer." The full line of tees, in youth's, men's and women's sizes, will be available for purchase online at store.standup2cancer.org/shop with proceeds benefiting SU2C.

"One of the great things about Peter Parker is he's a regular guy from Queens who is transformed into a hero," said Andrew Garfield, the star of The Amazing Spider-Man. "These shirts underscore the idea that anyone has the power to be a hero. Cancer is one of our greatest villains. I'm proud to join others in standing up to this disease."

BRIEFLY

* DC Comics has announced that in next week's Earth 2 #2, Green Lantern Alan Scott will be shown to be gay.

"I'm very proud to be introducing Alan Scott into DC Comics-The New 52," said series writer James Robinson. "He was my favorite Golden Age character and one I'm very familiar with so I'm really excited to be updating him for a contemporary readership.

"However, I think old-time readers will be pleasantly surprised by how, in some ways, I'm trying to show the 'classic' Alan Scott at the same time. He's still the same dynamic, heroic guy he was. He's still the head of a media empire like he was in his prior version, but of course with the form of media changing and evolving with the times. And in many ways, his origin mirrors the original one also. Oh, and on Earth 2 there is only one Green Lantern, so Alan's title is The Green Lantern. Alan's sexuality is just one facet of him, along with his innate goodness, valor, charisma and skill at leadership that makes him the perfect man to wield the power of the green light in the world of Earth 2."

"Before starting work on #1, the first document I had to work from was the character breakdowns for our primary players," said Earth 2 artist Nicola Scott. "With Alan the brief was very clear. He needed to be a big, strapping, handsome man that everyone would instinctively follow and love. No short order but right up my alley. Alan strikes me as an incredibly open, honest and warm man, a natural leader and absolutely the right choice to be Guardian of the Earth. His sexuality is incidental. Every time I draw him I love him even more."

* The next new episode of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes on Disney XD will be "Nightmare in Red" on Sunday, June 24.

Here's how the episode is described:

"When S.H.I.E.L.D. comes under attack by the Hulk, the Avengers rush to the scene and find a rampaging Red Hulk. The hunt is on for Bruce Banner as the Avengers try and unravel the mystery of who the Red Hulk is."

* Marvel Studios has announced it arranged with NASA to transfer The Avengers movie to NASA's Mission Control in Houston, which will uplink the film to the International Space Station (ISS), currently orbiting 220 miles above Earth. The film will then be screened for the space station crew's enjoyment.

The screening continues Marvel's collaboration with NASA, which began during principal photography of The Avengers when the film shot at the Space Power Facility at NASA's Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio.

* Image Comics has announced second printings for the sold-out Grim Leaper #1 and America's Got Powers #2. The publisher did not reveal the initial print runs.

* BOOM! Studios has announced a second printing for Extermination #1. The new printing will have a new cover by Kalman Andrasofszky with colors by Nolan Woodard.
