MARVEL COMICS NEWS ROUNDUP

Marvel Comics has unveiled the first art from Iron Man #1, the Marvel NOW! relaunch slated for November.

The series is written by Kieron Gillen, with art by Greg Land.

Here's how Marvel describes the book:

"Technical visionary. Unparalleled engineer. Avenger. Iron Man has done it all, from combating the greatest threats facing the Marvel Universe to dealing with his own inner demons. Now, when his greatest invention becomes his greatest mistake, Iron Man must act fact...and build faster! The lethal techno virus Extremis is out in the wild and for grabs to the highest bidder! It's up to Tony Stark to contain it and that means creating a new suit of armor!"

"Kieron and Greg are about to take Iron Man on a journey unlike anything he's ever experienced," said Marvel editor in chief Axel Alonso. "This creative team took the X-Men to the next level, and with Iron Man they'rre taking everything you know and love about the character and putting a spin on it that will have readers buzzing. Wait until you see what the new suit -- I mean, suits ----of armor can do!”

"The story will focus on him questioning things about himself and trying to find out exactly how the universe ticks, what’s this all about and why he does this anyway," Gillen said. "There will be a lot of changes in the armor throughout the series; in the first five issues there will be a different armor every issue."

Iron Man #1 goes on sale on Nov. 7.

IDW TO PUBLISH JOE PALOOKA

IDW Publishing has announced it has signed a deal to publish a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) comic book, Joe Palooka, which will launch in stores and online in late 2012.

"This represents a huge moment for me, and is a culmination of a real team effort," said Joe Palooka creator Joe Antonacci. "To sign on with a tremendous publisher like IDW and to have the opportunity to bring Joe Palooka to comic book and MMA fans worldwide is a tremendous opportunity. We're also proud to have sponsored many UFC fighters and plan to expand our relationship with them by having UFC fighters appear in the comic book as well."

"Team Palooka is bringing a ton of fire and energy to this book and we think it'll really strike a chord with comic fans and MMA fans alike," said IDW's Chief Creative Officer and Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall.

The Joe Palooka comic series tells the story of Joe Palooka, an MMA fighter who travels the world desperately trying to clear his name while fighting to earn a spot in the legendary "Legion of Combat" fight series that features team matches between fighters representing countries such as the U.S., the U.K., Brazil, Russia, Japan, China and others.

Plans for international distribution including the creation of multi-language versions of the series are also underway.
