COMICS CONTINUUM: NEWS IN BRIEF

ARMY REBOOT: Dynamite Entertainment has announced that Army of Darkness will receive "a complete overhaul" in a new ongoing series, Ash and the Army of Darkness, as imagined by Steve Niles.

<"We start with the last frame of the film and then go right to the next," Niles said. "It's a wild ride and I think fans of the film will be very happy because I am bringing back a lot of what made the movie so fun. My run of Ash and the Army of Darkness takes place almost entirely in the 1300's setting. That was what made Army of Darkness stand apart. I'm hoping readers agree."

The book's artist will be Dennis Calero.

LEGENDS OF RED SONJA: Dynamite Entertainment has announced Legends of Red Sonja, a four-issue anthology miniseries featuring a lineup of female writers, including Marjorie M. Liu, Mercedes Lackey, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Rhianna Pratchett, Leah Moore, Tamora Pierce, Blair Butler, Nancy Collins, Meljean Brook, Nicola Scott and Devin Grayson.

Cover artists will include Frank Thorne and Jay Anacleto.

ROBINSON AT DYNAMITE: Dynamite Entertainment has announced a deal with writer James Robinson to create a new series entitled Grand Passion.

"Grand Passion is definitely a departure from what I've been doing in the last few years," Robinson said. "This series is about two wayward characters Doc and Mabel -- one a cop, the other a crook -- who are fated to fall in love at first sight even as Mabel swears she'll kill Doc if it's the last thing she does. It marries elements of a Harlequin romance with hard-boiled crime and takes it off in a direction that's surprising, funny, violent, and sexy."

VERY BRIEFLY: HBO has renewed True Blood for a seventh season... Travel Channel has renewed The Toy Hunter for a third season... Oni Press has announced the appointments of John Schork and Shy Allott to the roles of director of publicity and director of sales, respectively.
