The books are written by Hannibal Tabu, with future editions planned for Aspen's later titles.

* The Aspen Novels prose imprint will release its second novel in November, Seven to Die, from author T.G. Roberts. Seven to Die, tells the story of Lex MacArthur, a San Francisco college student who comes into possession of an enigmatic clay pendant that unlocks a bevy of dormant superhuman genes. She's stronger, she's faster, and she's on a mission to find out why. As Lex sets out to discover who she is and where she really came from, she comes face-to-face with Egil, a killer who has been tracking Lex her entire life.  At the helm of an enormous operation to eradicate all of Lex's kind, Egil captures Lex's long-lost mother, forcing Lex to confront him head on and save those she loves from certain death.

IDW PUBLISHING ROUNDUP

IDW Publishing made announcements on Friday at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Following is a roundup:

* IDW is teaming with BOOM! Studios on Star Trek/Planet of the Apes, which will pair the original U.S.S. Enterprise crew with Taylor, Nova and the cast from the original Planet of the Apes film.

The crossover will be written by Scott Tipton and David Tipton, with art and covers by Rachael Scott.

* Angry Birds Transformers is a four-issue series spinning out of the recent teaming of Rovio Entertainment and Hasbro.

Here's how the book is described:

"When a Deceptihog raid on the Autobird ship goes awry, the sought-after Allspark is hurled into the expanses of space, only to find its way onto the shores of Piggie Island, and as its inhabitants will soon find out, the Allspark is much more powerful than any creature could have imagined!"

The book will be written by John Barber. Cover artists include Sarah Stone, Guido Guidi, Casey W. Coller and Livio Ramondelli, with Ramondelli providing artwork for a framing sequence of issue #1. Marcelo Ferriera is the series' artist.

* Topps' Garbage Pail Kids will become an IDW series next year.

Peter Bagge, who provided the initial image of all-new character Comic-Con Ron, will be a part of the new series, planned as an anthology of loosely connected stories by a variety off creators, including some of Topps' official Garbage Pail Kids artists.

"As a child of the Eighties, I was at ground zero for the Garbage Pail Kids phenomenon," series editor Denton J. Tipton said. "The profoundly irreverent stickers spoke directly to the rascal inside each and every one of my classmates, and helped us drive our teachers to the brink of insanity. I couldn't be more happy to be working with some of the giants of alternative comics to push the buttons of an entirely new generation of educators, many of which likely remember when the poo-covered sneaker was on the other foot."

* The publisher unveiled Gabriel Rodriguez's cover to the first issue of Edward Scissorhands, the October-launching series based on Tim Burton's movie.
