DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS ROUNDUP

Dynamite Entertainment made several announcements on Monday.

Following is a rundown:

WARREN ELLIS WRITING JAMES BOND 007

Warren Ellis will be writing a James Bond 007 ongoing comic book series, drawn by Jason Masters and scheduled for November.

In a deal with Ian Fleming Publications, Dynamite was granted worldwide rights to publish comic books, digital comics, and graphic novels starring 007.

"Ian Fleming's James Bond is an icon, and it's a delight to tell visual narratives with the original, brutal, damaged Bond of the books," Ellis said.

The first six-issue story arc in the James Bond 007 comic book series will be titled "VARGR."

Here's how the story is described:

"James Bond returns to London after a mission of vengeance in Helsinki, to take up the workload of a fallen 00 Section agent... but something evil is moving through the back streets of the city, and sinister plans are being laid for Bond in Berlin."

"I've wanted to draw something Warren Ellis wrote since I first read his work on The Authority," Masters said. "Each of his carefully composed pages is filled with wonderful ideas that make you wish you were smarter. More ingenious than Warren's writing might be Dynamite's decision to have him write James Bond. James Bond by Warren Ellis! I'd buy that sight unseen if I wasn't lucky enough to be the guy drawing it."

GARTH ENNIS' A TRAIN CALLED LOVE

Garth Ennis will launch a new creator-owned series, A Train Called Love, in October. Mark Dos Santos provides interior art and Russ Braun covers.

"A Train Called Love is a story I've been wanting to tell for some time, largely because people keep asking me about doing a romance comic and the idea just wouldn't go away," Ennis said. "This is what I came up with: guns, gangsters, mayhem, big white hoods, dubious films with horses, mad Germans, obscene phone calls, crazy ladies, total losers, hot chicks, dishy guys, movie stars, lots of narcotics, terrible bands from Williamsburg, taxidermy, incontinence, unrequited crushes, a big fluffy white rabbit and a rather unpleasant scene involving an escalator. Thus shall I explore the highs and lows of love."

Here's how the series is described:

"The first issue of A Train Called Love introduces Valerie, a woman who has been getting dirty phone calls and wants revenge... and in its pursuit, she meets Myles, the man of her dreams. However, Myles has been targeted by Emil and Gustav, two mentally unstable guns-for-hire. Meanwhile, the budding romance gets more complicated as the rest of the cast is introduced: Valerie's sister Penny, her friend friend Marcy (who's chasing her musical dreams), a handful of shady characters with a dubious scheme to get rich, and a certain organisation with a lot of Ks in its name. And then there's Mister Fluffy..."

DYNAMITE TEAMS WITH ATARI

Dynamite has announced a collaborative publishing agreement with Atari that includes rights for a comprehensive retrospective hardcover book, as well as rights to create original comics and graphic novels in all sizes and to reprint existing comic material.

"Atari is a touchstone for so many people," said, Rich Young, Dynamite's director of business development Rich Young. "Their games and game system exposed a lot of folks to video games for the first timeā€¦and frankly, got them hooked! I have fond memories of playing games on the 2600 with friends growing up, and am quite happy that we have a chance to work with Atari on this publishing program."

Dynamite plans to create new comics based on Asteroids, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Missile Command, Tempest, Yar's Revenge and more. Dynamite also plans to reprint existing comics material, such as the Atari Force comics that were originally published from 1982-1986.
