NBC'S POWERLESS

Vanessa Hudgens will star in Powerless, the first comedy series set in the DC Comics universe, airing on NBC next fall.

Here's how NBC describes the series:

"Vanessa Hudgens plays Emily, a spunky young insurance adjuster specializing in regular-people coverage against damage caused by the crime-fighting superheroes. It's when she stands up to one of these larger-than-life figures (after an epic battle messes with her commute) that she accidentally becomes a cult 'hero' in her own right ... even if it's just to her group of lovably quirky co-workers. Now, while she navigates her normal, everyday life against an explosive backdrop, Emily might just discover that being a hero doesn’t always require superpowers."

The cast also includes Alan Tudyk, Danny Pudi and Christina Kirk.

Ben Queen serves as writer and executive producer. Director Michael Patrick Jann also executive produces. Powerless is produced by Warner Bros. Television and based on the characters from DC Comics.

BRIEFLY

TSUM TSUM: Marvel Comics has announced Marvel Tsum Tsum, a new limited series beginning in August from writer Jacob Chabot and artist David Baldeon.

Here's how Marvel describes the series:

"When a crate of these pint-sized piles of fur accidentally falls to Earth en route to The Collector, one small group of Brooklyn teenagers will find out! Oh -- and did we mention the Marvel Tsum Tsums believe they're the real Marvel Heroes?"

"Thanks to all the fans, Marvel Tsum Tsum has been the #1 downloaded free game in Japan for nearly two months," said Bill Rosemann, Marvel Games Creative Director. "We're happy to bring that excitement to the limited series along with a set of variant covers based on the unique art style of the game!"

TSUM TSUM: Alan Robert has inked a deal with IDW Publishing to create a unique, horror-themed adult coloring book, titled The Beauty of Horror, scheduled for a Halloween release. The Beauty of Horror is filled with 80 pages hand-drawn, pen and ink illustrations by Robert that take the color enthusiast on a twisted journey through bizarre carnivals, the zombie apocalypse, serial killer lairs and haunted burial grounds.

"The coloring book craze took hold of my wife and daughter a few months ago and I wanted to get in on the fun, but as I flipped through the endless pages of nature patterns, it dawned on me that someone left out all of the damn corpses," Robert said. "As a proud member of the horror community, I took it upon myself to stand up for the rights of monster-lovers everywhere. Why should we be excluded from the coloring phenomenon?! Needless to say, my take on the whole thing is completely warped, but I know I'm not alone... there's a lot of us horror-fiends out there looking to color in some morbid stuff."
