MARVEL'S CAGE IN OCTOBER

Marvel Comics has announced an October launch for Cage!, written by animator Genndy Tartakovsky, with art by Tartakovsky and inker Stephen DeStefano.

Here's how Marvel describes the book:

"Welcome to the mean streets of New York City -- shoes are big, bottoms are belled and crime is rampant! But in the heart of the city, the world's hardest-working, smack-talking, chain-wearing, tiara-sporting super hero is hitting the streets hard and hitting the bad guys harder. This Hero for Hire is on the case, and his rates are reasonable! He's Luke Cage, and he'll save your behind. Dig it!"

"Growing up with those [Power Man and Iron Fist] comics in the 70's and 80's I have a very strong fondness of that version of Power Man so my version is very rooted in that time, but I think it's totally fun and feels new," Tartakovsky said. "It was about making something entertaining with a character that I really liked. So I think it can appeal to young and old readers."

TITAN COMICS' WARHAMMER 40,000 SERIES

Games Workshop and Titan Comics have announced the creative team of writer George Mann and artists Tazio Bettin and Enrica Eren Angiolini to kick off the new Warhammer 40,000 comic series on Oct. 12.

Now in its seventh edition, the tabletop miniatures war game Warhammer 40,000 is also explored in novels, roleplaying and card games, apps and videogames. The new Dawn Of War III videogame has been announced for 2017.

Here's how Titan describes the series:

"The new Warhammer 40,000 comic sees Mann and Bettin take the series to new heights with the first adventure, entitled 'Will of Iron.' The story follows Baltus, a Dark Angel newly elevated to the rank of Space Marine, as he is baptized on the bloody battlefield and uncovers the price his Chapter has paid for victory! Secrets as old as the Horus Heresy are on the verge of being revealed..."

The first issue comes with covers by Tazio Bettin and Enrica Eren Angiolini, John McCrea and Dee Cunniffe, Fabio Listrani, Boo Cook and Nick Percival, plus a blank sketch cover.

"I've long had an affinity with the rich, gothic universe of Warhammer 40,000, and it's a privilege to be able to continue it in this way, crafting stories brimming with intrigue, suspicion, heroism and conflict," Mann said. "Terrible things await the Dark Angels beyond the warp veil of Calaphrax. We've got big plans, and we're about to embark on a terrifying mission into the darkest recesses of the universe. May the Emperor of Mankind protect us!"

Titan is also producing a special issue #0 edition of Warhammer 40,000, which will be available in October's edition of White Dwarf magazine. This 32-page preview comic, designed to direct fans to their local comic book store, features an original 10-page strip by the creative team from the regular series, exclusive making of features and comes with a new cover by series artist Bettin.
