NEW TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

Nickelodeon will reimagine its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise with an all-new, 26-episode 2D-animated series, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (working title), launching fall 2018.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles follows this band of brothers as they encounter new allies and villains and discover a magical world they never knew existed beneath the streets of New York City. The new series is co-executive produced by Andy Suriano and Ant Ward at Nickelodeon in Burbank, Calif.

The news was announced at Nickelodeon's Upfront presentation on Friday in New York City.

"The Turtles is a property that has reinvention in its DNA, which keeps it fresh and relevant to every new generation while satisfying the demand from its adult fans," said Cyma Zarghami, president, Nickelodeon Group. "Turtles has been an incredibly important franchise for us since we reignited it five years ago, and we're excited for the new series to take the characters in a different direction with more humor, a younger and lighter feel and all-new dimensions to explore."

Here's how the network describes the show:

"Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will follow Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo on all-new adventures as they seek to unlock the mystical secrets of New York City. From the tallest skyscraper to the dankest sewer drain, the Turtles will encounter absurd new mutants and battle bizarre creatures all while enjoying their favorite slice of pizza. Tapping into mystic, ninja powers they never knew existed, the four brothers must learn to work together and navigate the perils of the modern age and hidden realms in order to fulfill their destiny to become a team of heroes."

The new season of Nickelodeon's current CG-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will premiere Sunday, March 19, at 9 a.m. (ET/PT).

BRIEFLY

VALIANT'S MASSCARE: Valiant Entertainment has announced "Massacre," a four-part story beginning in July's Harbinger Renegade #5 from writer Rafer Roberts and artist Darick Robertson.

"The death that occurs in Harbinger Renegade #5 is going to have a profound effect on the trajectory of the Valiant Universe for at least the next year," said Valiant editor-in-chief Warren Simons. "Harbinger has always been about the stakes and real-world consequences of power in practice. The events of 'Massacre' are going to rip through the Harbinger Renegades like a shockwave. This is a key moment that will directly lay the groundwork to Harbinger Wars 2."

Here's how Valiant describes the story:

"Toyo Harada's former protege -- Alexander Solomon, a psiot with the ability to predict and analyze potential futures -- has been waiting for this moment. With the Harbinger Renegades -- Peter Stanchek, Faith, Kris Hathaway, and Torque -- now reunited as a result of his covert manipulations, his ultimate gambit can now begin. But he's not the only one who has been watching. Major Charlie Palmer has just re-assigned a new division of the militarized psiot hunters codenamed H.A.R.D. Corps to active duty...and they're about to bring a torrent of blood and calamity roaring into the streets of a major American metropolis for an all-out firefight.

"The Harbinger Renegades. Livewire. Alexander Solomon. Generation Zero. Toyo Harada. Secret Weapons. Imperium. None of them are safeā€¦and, when the smoke clears, a pivotal Valiant hero will become the first sacrifice of the massive Harbinger War that is to come."

STAR WARS REBELS RENEWED: Production is underway on the fourth season of Star Wars Rebels from Lucasfilm, scheduled to premiere on Disney XD later this year.

Marc Buhaj, senior vice president, programming and general manager, Disney XD, said, "The team behind 'Star Wars Rebels' delivers epic storytelling that has captivated fans of all ages across the globe. We're excited to continue sharing the journey of these fan- favorite Rebels with our audience in the fall."
