LUCY LIU DIRECTS LUKE CAGE

Marvel Television and Netflix announced that actress and director, Lucy Liu, is directing the premiere episode of the second season of the Netflix original series Marvel's Luke Cage, set to premiere in 2018.

In addition to a slew of television and film credits, Liu made her directorial debut in 2011's short film, Meena, and also directed four episodes of her CBS series, Elementary.

"Lucy and I have been tight since our SouthLAnd days and she's a welcome addition to our Luke Cage family. She brings the same buoyant intensity, deft humor, and singular focus to her directing that she has always brought to her acting...not to mention the fact that the former O'Ren Ishii certainly knows her way around an action sequence," said series executive producer and showrunner, Cheo Hodari Coker. "Her enthusiasm is infectious."

"What a thrill to collaborate with Marvel and Netflix, two industry titans, who paint our world with inspiring stories and beguiling characters," Liu said. "It is such an honor to work with such a passionate and fearless team."

ARCHIE COMICS NEWS ROUNDUP

Archie Comics has announced an Oct. 4 launch for The Archies, an ongoing series written by Matthew Rosenberg and Alex Segura, with art by Joe Eisma.

Here's how the series is described:

After successfully playing their first real show together as a band, Archie, Jughead, Betty & Veronica, and Reggie leave Riverdale as they begin their first tour across the country -- and meet real-life bands along the way!

"We're taking The Archies out of Riverdale and sending them on tour across the country to experience everything a touring band goes through," Rosenberg said. "So whether you grew up with Archie or you've never read a comic, here's a great chance to hop in the van with these 5 old friends and experience something totally new."

In other Archie news, the publisher has announced an Oct. 25 launch for Jughead: The Hunger, an ongoing series written by Frank Tieri, with art by Pat Kennedy and Tim Kennedy.

Here's how the book is described:

"During the full moon, Riverdale falls under siege. After discovering his dark lineage in March's Jughead: The Hunger One-Shot by Frank Tieri and Michael Walsh, Jughead Jones struggles to put his past behind him with Betty Cooper: Werewolf Hunter and Archie Andrews hot on his trail!"

"We purposely left the door open with the one shot, we told you if you made Jughead: The Hunger a hit we'd make more -- and since you more than held up your end of the bargain-- here we are," Tieri said. "Fans can expect more of everything they loved about the one shot now as we expand our universe -- more werewolf Juggie, more bad ass Betty, more conflicted Archie and more twists and turns than you can shake a severed arm at."

Covers for #1 are by Francesco Francavilla, Robert Hack and Michael Walsh.
